- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have fee scales for hourly rates for undergraduate and graduate work, but also do per-page and per-document pricing for editing and proofreading, depending upon the circumstances. I also work with writing needs outside academia on an hourly, per-page or per-document rate, depending on the job and the client's preferences. I do ghost-writing as well; those terms are worked out on an individual basis.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I like to exchange a few emails so that we are not total strangers coming together! Then, in my home classroom, we can relax and discuss our plan of action together over a cup of coffee. I ask that the student bring me some samples of his or her work for me to evaluate, or I'll have him or her read a short paragraph and write a short sample, but then I like to get right down into the work. I want my student to leave each session with solid work completed and a clear roadmap of the next stage to tackle. This gives a sense of pride and fulfillment, and through the work, we also will be building on our rapport with one another, creating trust, ease and openness. For editorial work, I definitely want to meet in person for at least the first time and get a feel for the author, his or her style and the story he or she has to tell. In turn, the author will have a chance to assess what I can bring to the table. It is important for a writer and his or her editor to feel at ease with one another.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have degrees in English as a Second Language (ESL) and First Language Acquisition. I am completing my Doctorate in Language Processing.
