FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For a home renovation in Westchester, here is what you should know about pricing and budgeting: Estimated Project Costs: A full gut renovation typically starts around $100,000 but can exceed $500,000 for high-end luxury projects. On average, a mid-range kitchen remodel ranges from $30,000 to $65,000, while bathrooms generally fall between $20,000 and $40,000. Pricing Drivers: Costs are influenced heavily by the age of the home (many in Westchester pre-date 1980) and the complexity of infrastructure updates, such as plumbing and electrical wiring. Structural changes, like removing walls or expanding rooms, will also significantly increase the total fee. Permitting Fees: Westchester has strict building codes. You should factor in costs for various permits—including building, electrical, and plumbing—which are necessary to ensure the project is legal and up to code. The "Low Bid" Risk: Beware of "misleading low bids" that may not include all necessary expenses. It is better to prioritize a transparent, comprehensive proposal that outlines all line items to avoid hidden fees mid-project. Contingency Planning: Because unexpected issues are common in older homes, always set aside a 10–20% contingency fund above the initial estimate to cover any surprises found behind the walls.
