FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
At this time I do not have a standard pricing system for my service. This is because I am listed as designing graphics, designing PowerPoint presentations, editing (technical) and editing (other novel or literary works). The variety that I just listed here does not lend to a standard pricing system. However, I do keep records of each project and I know the approximate time it takes me to perform certain types of tasks. I can make a cost-estimate for you when I use my past record-information - Only if I get some detail about the type of work you need accomplished.- Thank you!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After we agree on Thumbtack, we schedule a phone interview. This is a 15-min. call during which I ask questions about the type of work (media such as powerpoint, webpage or novel) and your audience. We discuss your purpose and goals for your document. I may ask some open ended question to understand more about you and your work. Then we schedule a time to meet, if that seems appropriate - We look at the documents and planning you had already completed to date, we clarify anything about the work needed to be done. We look at your schedule and we set up a list of tasks and target dates. Then we make sure we both get copies and move forward toward completion of your project.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I did not mention in my bio that when I worked as a scientist, I was also a project manager. All of my projects finished on-time. They were really completed ahead of schedule to ensure that they could go through the review process. So I also have on-the-job training as a project manager, approximately seven years. The years of writing and editing started with work as a scientist. I did not realize that I had an aptitude for spelling/grammar/writing and I became the unofficial office editor after the first year on the job as an environmental consultant. As the computer -PC-era evolved into the email/website era, I also learned and evolved with it and eventually returned to graduate school for a technical writing degree. This was a hybrid degree between the English and Communication departments at Miami University.
