Introduction: My name is Charlie Akers, and I am a local musician who has been professionally teaching and playing music for over a decade. My experiences in both performing and teaching has solidified my belief that music is one of the most valuable and rewarding hobbies one can pursue in their lifetime. Being a parent, you want the best for your child. Not only do you want them to grow and develop in a healthy and intellectually stimulating way, but you want them to be happy and full of positive self-esteem. Music education is the perfect vehicle for accomplishing these things. Not only is it intellectually and analytically stimulating, but it is truly fun and rewarding. I have worked with many children of all ages, and their parents have reported a very positive response since beginning lessons. If you take a look at statistics regarding the positive impact of music education, they reiterate the same point: music is a fun and rewarding life-long hobby that has a multitude of positive side-effects. I would be honored to be a guide for your child in their musical journey. And those of you who are a bit older who would like to start your own journey, the same applies! I look forward to hearing from you!

Charlie is exactly what I was looking for in a guitar instructor. He provided me with lessons to work on between lessons, and he made adjustments according to my experience. I highly recommend his services.

Charlie is great. He’s flexible with scheduling and my son is comfortable with him. He personalizes lesson plans and gives him things to work on between lessons. All around happy with the service.

Charlie is an amazing guitar instructor! My 6 year old grandson has had 2 lessons with him so far & he loves it! The very first lesson, Charlie gave him some info to learn the parts of a guitar, which is great to get him familiarized with his instrument. He has inspired my grandson to practice even more than usual & we look forward to many more lessons! Thank you for being so awesome, Charlie!

I have been playing guitar for a few years, but have never been focused in any particular direction. A few months ago I began working with Charlie. He quickly assessed my level and knew what direction we needed to go. Every lesson he prepares detailed notes and tabs for what we will be working on. My skill and confidence as a player has improved exponentially. I have learned more in the last few months working with Charlie than in the last few years of teaching myself. Excellent teacher.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer flexible pricing options based on your budget, and can work with you to find a lesson plan that is a right fit. I am also flexible regarding travel, as I can come to your home if you prefer!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Each one of my students is totally unique. That is why I never use a "one size fits all approach" to my lessons. I tailor my lesson plans to address the student's overall skill level, strengths/weaknesses regarding technique, music theory, and musical comprehension, and finally, their long-term musical goals. I believe that teaching the music YOU love is the absolute best way to quickly get over that initial difficult learning curve that stops so many people from continuing to play. This is where so many traditional "Learning Guitar" books or YouTube videos fail. They teach the technique, chords, and basic music theory, but fail to engage the student's passion. If you are actually playing the music you're passionate about, you are much more likely to stick with it and continue to play. This is exactly what I offer to my students. I will tailor lessons to your musical passions and then teach the different musical concepts therein. It's kind of like reverse engineering! I set my students up with the best possible trajectory to allow them to enjoy the experience of being able to actually play guitar the way they want to. Make no mistake, doing lessons with me does not automatically mean you will be able to play the way you want to immediately. I expect my students to practice! However, that does not have to be a scary 8-letter word. I will let you know exactly what to practice every week so that you can improve incrementally. I always say that getting better happens in between the lessons, not during! I guarantee you that if you do lessons with me, and put in the work by practicing, you WILL be able to play the guitar the way you've always wanted to.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been a professional musician for almost a decade playing guitar and bass in many different bands. Having played everything from gospel, to country, to rock and metal, I love all genres of music (well... most of them all...) and believe that every single one has valuable musical lessons to be learned within. In terms of teaching, I have a similar amount of experience teaching all ages and skill levels. At School of Rock Littleton, CO, I taught kids ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old for many years. Additionally, I have taught adults whose ages range even more widely! It does not matter how old you are, or your skill level, I can help you get to where you want to be.
