Nice men. My daughter ended up with more stuff to move than I originally thought and the guys, although surprised and probably irritated, remained professional.

Terrell did a very good job cleaning my 2 1/2 bathrooms. He was very thorough and took his time cleaning the bathroom our 19-year-old son uses. I was impressed on how he managed to get our tub clean. I certainly recommend his cleaning services.

I gave these guys good marks instead of a great review for one reason: professionalism in terms of speaking to the customers. There was an issue whereby Kevin said they never got an official box count and so the truck size they brought was too small, therefore I had to leave items behind and will have to go and retrieve them at a later date. I take responsibility for not giving them a newer box count-however, if this were the case that they never got an updated amount, it would've been prudent for them to call and let me know this fact. I know I sent at least two emails about the amount of stuff I had, and when we talked on the phone I told the guys this. Before the move they were very nice. However, upon learning of the mixup they became quite a bit rude. Again, I take responsibility for my part, and understand why they would be flustered-however, as a single woman with no help packing her own things and being alone in an apartment with two disgruntled guys, I felt a bit uncomfortable, and overall I have a negative memory of this move. At one point I tried to move boxes out of the way and was told quite condescendingly by an employee to "PLEASE no move anything because we need this hallway cleared." Needless to say I stayed the heck out of the way as best as I could. Eventually they were jokey with each other and nice with me after a while, but still, overall not my best memory. At one point we even sort of talked about what happened and I told kevin i emailed him the day before about a big truck size, which I remember saying over the phone to bring the biggest size they had, and again I was met with a rude "well that's not gonna help me the day before!" comment. So again, human nature is human nature, and I would've been flustered too, but at the same time, while the customer is NOT always right, and in this case I know part of me was wrong, to me professionalism, in this case taking a minute to figure out what happened, would've been a good idea. My dad even said as soon as they got to my new place they rudely told my dad, of whose fault it was not, "Your daughter had a LOT more than she said!" My dad said they only became kinder when he helped move about half of the stuff in from the truck to the apartment. So I gave them a good because they packed that truck as best as they could and efficiently moved everything with no nicks or breaks. However, if you're looking for 100 percent professionalism in terms of manners and communication, I can't give them a five out of five review for that. However, if you're not concerned with that and just need boxes moved from here to there efficiently and safely, these guys are perfectly fine.

Arrived on time, on a very hot day. Did an excellent job of packing our storage cube, everything fit. No charges that weren't explained when I scheduled. Worked efficiently and continually while they were here. Very pleased, would recommend to others.

My movers, Josh and Tony were very professional and took great care in packing up the truck and moving everything up to my second floor apartment. Not a wall was even touched by any piece of furniture or any boxes. It snowed all day and they had sunny dispositions anyway. They relieved my stress and worry and because of that, my move was as pleasant as it could be. I highly recommend Legacy Moving and give them 5 stars.

AFM answered all of my questions beforehand during booking. They called to confirm our appointment window. They also called to confirm when they were en route the morning of. They showed up on time. Walked through my residence with me to go over what furniture and boxes would need to be moved. They unassembled my son’s loft bed for me without hesitation. Then they carried everything into the new place (2 flights of stairs...this was not an easy one) quickly but carefully in addition to reassembling the beds for me. They covered the carpets and door frames as well as wrapped some furniture to prevent any accidental damage. I would happily recommend Another Flawless Move And would definitely use their services again.

I got quotes from 4 other companies. Finally, I settled on hiring Pick Up Movers simply because they had the lowest quote. But they gave me amazing services for that little bill. They really employ the most capable movers. The four men I got were all very well trained and had enough experience to conduct this move. Their packing skills were good and they had no trouble loading everything to the van. The best thing about them was their timing. They arrived on time and made the delivery on time as well. I have very high regards for this amazing company.

Tara was wonderful to work with! My only suggestion is to not label some boxes "Misc" (even though the room is clearly labeled), but to list a few key items in the box. Otherwise, I would recommend to anyone needing packing services!

Exceeded my Expectations!! Moving is never a fun experience, but Andrews made it 100% easier. I was so stressed about the entire move trying to sell our old home and finish building our new home and getting all the loose ends tied up in time. Our move consultant, Courtney came out to visit our home and she was WONDERFUL!!! She explained the whole process and gave us different packing options that best fit what we needed. I felt like a huge burden had been lifted off my shoulders after her visit. She had great suggestions of where to donate & sell items we didn't want and helped us better prepare for move day. We had Andrews come and pack our home and do our move the next day. The crew was great. They were courteous, respectful, and very knowledgeable. They packed my whole house in a day, I would have been packing for weeks, heck probably months!! Everything went smoothly, the crew was quick and efficient. It's amazing how hard they worked and still had a smile at the end of the day!! Will definitely recommend to friends, family, and co-workers that are moving!! Thank you!!

For about seven years I dreamed of making my partially finished basement into a fun, comfortable place for our family to hang out and grandchildren to play. Problem is, it was packed with unattractive shelves, a bunch of stuff, and a huge china cabinet that got in the way. For years I would go downstairs and just sit by the hour and look around and try to figure out where I should start. I called Heather and asked her if she wanted to come over and help me. And boy did she ever! In the first two hours she helped me break the INERTIA! She immediately had a vision, started making suggestions, dove right in and helped me move and place things differently and put her foot down about me getting rid of some of the things I had been storing for years. Over the next few days I was able to work on my own with a purpose. She gave me lots of ideas for organizing things to purchase. She came back a second time and helped me again. Our basement was transformed in less than three weeks (myself imposed deadline for our whole family coming in for Christmas.) Everyone in our family is THRILLED. The space is child proofed, safe, comfortable and completely transformed. Our kids and our grandkids were able to gather together and actually relax while their kids played happily. She also had many suggestions for the utility side of our basement which were such an improvement it inspired my husband to paint it! And she didn't stop at just the basement - walking through the kitchen and past hallway closets she made tons of suggestions that I later pursued on my own. I can’t say enough about what a tremendous inspiration Heather was!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
