Introduction: Composition is key to quality outdoor portrait photography. Not only do I want the model to be looking their best, but the background needs to compliment and be interesting to draw the viewers eye towards the model. I strive for visual angles in my portraits. I love photography and I love people. Plain and simple. Capturing a moment in time is magical.

Pam took our family's portrait and did an amazing job! We went to one park, and while I thought that the photos were good, Pam wasn't satisfied and thought that they could be better. Pam did another shoot at a different location at no charge. These photos turned out wonderfully and we were very happy that she offered to do this! Pam is very professional and also easy and fun to work with and she allows you to give your input during the shoot. I will DEFINITELY have her take my daughters' senior pictures in a few years. I wholeheartedly recommend her!

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I did not work with Pam as she chose not to work with me. Not knowing how thumb stack truly works for these businesses, I selected Hire and then decided the decision wasn't final and continued looking. Pam called me several times, at one point I called and talked to someone at her work, and then I talked to her again. I stated again that she was on the top of my list but I could not decide right now. She sent me another message. I felt she was very aggressive in contacting me and I let her know I will make a decision and she is still on the top of my list. She then sent back another message stating something about offering me two quotes (which I'm completely unfamiliar with, I only had one quote) and that she no longer wished to work with me. I had a bad feeling about her all along since she was so aggressive in pursuing me and seemed to accuse me of not following some process exactly instead of being happy to have another client, but I was going to forgive all of this and hire her anyway, and then she dumped me. Very questionable business acumen from this lady, in terms of dealing with customers.
Portraits by Pam's reply
It is not my practice to aggressively pursue any one. After receiving Michael's message through thumbtack that I was hired and giving me his number to call to set up a session date, I called his number twice, to which I left voice messages. On the third attempt, I did reach Michael, to which he replied that he and his fiance were undecided. I kindly said OK and if there was anything I could do to help make their decision to just let me know. Later that day I was at the allergist with my son and Michael called my number and left a message with my other son that he wanted to set up a session date. So, assuming I was indeed hired, I tried to contact Michael to once again set up an appointment, which he did not reply to. Michael then sent out another thumbtack request for just a headshot session just for him (not with his fiance). I quoted, not realizing at the time that I was quoting to the same person. After sending the quote, I then sent Michael a message giving him info on how thumbtack works. Nothing mean, just simply stating how I was confused as to why Michael was sending another request out when he indicated that I had been hired. Michael then proceeded to send me a message stating how aggressively I was pursuing him and I was on the top of his list but because my quote was the lowest that he didn't think I would have the quality he wanted. At this point, I kindly bowed out and retracted my quote. It is not in my nature to be aggressive, I was simply following through. If someone is not confident with my abilities then that is when I feel I am not the photographer for them. I wished Michael and his fiance all the best.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am constantly learning via books and the internet on how I can improve my photography and photo editing skills. This is absolutely necessary with the continuous upgrades to both cameras and computer software.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have had a passion for photography since I was a child. I decided to pursue an advertising career and worked in ad agencies for many years which surrounded me with photography on a daily basis. I was an avid amateur photographer for my family and friends all my adult life. I always dreamed of being a professional photographer. Within the last 3 years many doors opened up for me to allow me to pursue this dream. Portraits by Pam was launched and I am loving every minute of it.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

My best advice would be to check out photographers portfolios. Each have their own unique style. Select the style that best suits you. Once you have selected a few, meet with them for a consult. Determine which photographer has the personality that makes you feel comfortable and will be easy to work with.
