Jeff and his helpers did a fantastic job of picking up and moving some very large, heavy office furniture that we purchased to our new home. In addition, they moved our antique cabinet, some bookcases and other furniture to the home at the same time. They were very careful with all items and managed to get them into the home through a narrow door without any damage. They were cheerful, respectful and worked at a steady pace. I cannot recommend them enough if you have the need for a "small" move.

Got the response to my request and read the reviews on Mount Up as well as a few other responses, doing my research. Their reviews outshined the others and we decided to call them based on this, which was a great decision. We had attempted a few other moving companies before using Thumbtack and none could get us in within our schedule. Mount Up was able to get us in on the exact day we needed. The day of, we received a call that they would be to us in about 30 minutes. Around that time, Curtis and Tommy show up with their own, large moving truck. Along with dollys, furniture pads and protective plastic wrap. Even the large, national company we used for a previous move didn't use protective wrapping. We explained to them that we needed them for all of the large, heavy furniture we couldn't do ourselves and they got to it. Less than 3 hours and they had around 10 large, heavy furniture pieces to our new place and where we wanted. This included going down two flights of stairs with a lot of the stuff. Curtis and Tommy were fantastic at their job and we couldn't recommend them and Mount Up enough. They took incredible care with our furniture and made sure nothing got damaged. Moving is a nightmare and I don't plan on doing it again for a very, very long time. But if I have to, hopefully, I can hire Mount Up again.

I can not say enough good things about my experience with Andrews Moving company! I planned a last minute move and was just grateful to find movers for the day I needed, but after I looked up reviews for other moving companies, and saw all the horror stories, I realize how lucky I was to have had such a great company help me with my move! The company answered all my questions prior to my move and called the night before and gave me a one hour window they would arrive by, and true to their word, they were there. They packed the truck efficiently and carefully. Once at my new home, they unpacked everything quickly, and made sure I was happy with everything before they left. The moving company office also called me during the move to make sure everything was going smoothly. The movers themselves were friendly and very polite. I recommended this company to friends and family, and would use this company again in a heartbeat. As stressful as a move can be, the moving company made it easy and I am so thankful!

When I was looking to move, I called several moving companies to get quotes and all the price that I was getting where very high. I was going to move my self then I came across veterans Moving Service. Dave came out and gave me an estimate and I like the price that he quoted me. I hired Dave and Veterans Moving Service. Came to moving day Veterans moving service showed up when he said he would, Dave was kind and courteous, he also took well care of my furniture and household belongings put them in the rooms that they were supposed to be in even help set up the beds. If and when I move again I would use veterans Moving Service again. I give this company two thumbs up. Thank you Dave and Veterans moving services !!!

I recently used Cleveland Relocations Services for my move from Beachwood to Aurora. Their service is absolutely excellent!! Reasonable prices, better than others I had looked into. The care that went into moving every piece of furniture and boxes was above average. Not one single scratch, dent on anything. That's a first for me!! Tim and Joc, the two employees I had the pleasure of dealing with were professional and so pleasant to work with. I have already recommended this moving company to others.

Rod was chosen from five bidders, all of whom were close in their estimates. Unlike the others, he initially mentioned renovation options ( both interior and exterior ) that had not been considered in the planning. No one else "thought outside the box". This was a complete renovation of a house to prepare it for sale: new flooring throughout, new padding and carpeting throughout, much repair work of damaged wood and walls, a wood-burning fireplace rehab; installation of new vanities, sinks, mirrors, med. cabinets and accessories, 5 new ceiling fans, power washing, painting shutters and repair and painting of storage shed, caulking around foundation, installation of all new interior and exterior doors. You can see that the job was all-encompassing and Rod was up to the task and did some unique repairs along the way. The only two detours included four dead electrical outlets that still need to be repaired by an electrician and the time frame ran more than 3 and 1/2 months. If you are willing to be patient, Rod will do a bang-up job for you. He would text pictures of items for my approval before he would make a purchase. He provided me with a receipt for everything that was required for the job. This was an $11,000+ investment, but the new owner is not going to have any headaches once they move in. I hope to hire Rod again for work at my own residence and would comfortably make a referral to anyone in need of his services.

I want to thank Helping Hand Movers for all of their hard work. We had scheduled one of the big moving companies and the day of the move they did not show up because of a mix up in scheduling. I called Sultan late morning and his team was there by lunch time and worked into the night to move a whole house and a garage full of tools to a storage unit. The guys were fast and professional and took on an overwhelming task at an affordable price and did it in record time. They are true professionals and work hard to make sure your move is a success. I can't say enough to thank them for saving the day !

I had never moved to another area of the state, much less to another state entirely. But this time I was moving miles away. From the start, everyone I spoke with at Pick Up Movers was helpful, professional and courteous. I especially appreciated it when they were explaining the things to be aware of when considering a moving company. I will definitely recommend this company to anyone who needs their services and I will use them again for my next move.

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
