Maria is an amazing teacher, healer and human being. Just being in her presence makes me feel more peaceful and joyful. I have taken both her Reiki Level One and Two classes and have benefited immensely from bringing the peace of Reiki into my daily life. And a Reiki session with Maria is truly transformative!

Julie rocks, I trained with her and took a Reiki 1 with her... I can’t wait for the Reiki 2 class. Prior to that I was having serious back issues and Julie was amazing at healing me in one session. I remember I could barely walk that day. I felt as good as new after I left Julie.

I am passionate about reconnecting women to their own inner wisdom through yoga, Reiki and coaching. I offer private and group yoga classes, Reiki healing and one-on-one health and lifestyle coaching.

I'm a longtime, well-studied yoga practitioner/teacher and reiki practitioner, offering simple therapeutic modalities that support balance, rest and healing. My restorative sessions are deeply relaxing and can bring relief from pain, anxiety, insomnia, exhaustion and more. My training in these therapies is primarily with internationally known teacher Rodney Yee.

I have been a full-time massage therapist since 1997. I have been trained in neuromuscular therapy, positional release, orthobionomy I, II and III, synergist structural integration, and Reiki I, II, and III. I am a very goal-oriented massage therapist. My sessions are described as deep tissue that is infused with Reiki. The majority of my clients come in with some issue, whether it is in the neck, low back, knee or shoulder. I have worked on practically every issue in the body there could be, such as sciatica or muscular impingement on a nerve. Most of my clients have a specific need, and I like to help them reach their goals of reducing tension and stress.

I have over 20 years of experience as a Reiki Master and have studied a number of other energy healing techniques.

Reiki simply means universal (Rei) life force energy (ki), and is received and given by the laying-on of hands. The client is the one who indirectly decides how much healing he or she receives, and with what intention. The Reiki practitioner is simply a conduit of healing light energy. The healing energy flows from the hands of the Reiki practitioner and then flows soothingly into the client.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki is a type of wellness bodywork, often referred to as energy work, that originated in Japan. Reiki practitioners offer this traditional healing technique with the intent of manipulating the flow of energy through the client’s body. Unlike massage, Reiki uses minimal — if any — pressure, focusing on stimulating energy flow rather than working the soft tissue and muscles. This movement of energy is done to improve mental, emotional and physical health. Reiki is touted for its stress relief and ability to ease tension. It can also improve mental clarity, release stress and tension, manage pain, or help with spiritual growth. It is said that Reiki practitioners act as a channel for a universal life force to help support a client’s natural ability to heal. Reiki sessions often last 30 to 90 minutes, with prices varying based on session length, background and experience of the provider, and where you live. Nationally, the average price range for a Reiki session is $60-$80.

Where does Reiki energy come from?

Reiki is a form of bodywork that involves the “laying on of hands” to heal. In Reiki, a client lies down, clothed, and allows the energy worker to pass their hands slowly over their body, sometimes physically touching the body and sometimes hovering above it, to help create healing movement in their energy. This movement of energy is said to help the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

According to the International Association of Reiki Professionals, the practice of Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. The doctor sought to create a healing practice that wasn’t attached to any religion or religious belief so that all people could use it. The healing power of Reiki is said to come from a universal life force, and the Reiki practitioner is like a channel or conduit for the healing energy that is present in all living organisms. The Reiki practitioner can sense energy blockages and help restore flow, which in turn can help create emotional, physical, spiritual or mental wellness.
