Mike did an awesome job remodeling my bathroom (tile, tub, toilet, vanity, molding and drywall) and some other electrical work around my house. We encountered some challenges in our project and he found solutions to them all. I would highly recommend him and would definitely work with him again.

We hired Brad to repair our laminate flooring. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He responded and did the job quickly; within a week of finding him through thumbtack the job is done and we are enjoying our repaired kitchen floor. He also completed a few other minor related repairs. Very highly recommended!

Chad came to our rescue during our kitchen remodel/update. We did a lot of work as homeowners but we realized we were in over our head and fatigued. He answered my thumbtack and came over immediately to give me a quote. He started the next day and cleaned up some of our work and laid our ceramic tile. He even fixed our plumbing. He did such a great job and was friendly with us and our dog. We recommend him highly.

Anthony at Emperial Homes did a great job on our tile for our shower surround. We had originally hired him to install a window, but we decided to wait on the project and we had him to do the tile work instead. We are very glad that we did. He installed tiles, a strip of backsplash & 3 cermanic shelves. All of it looks great! He showed up on time, was very kind & finished in a very timely manner.

Stuart was punctual, polite and is an overall nice person who loves what he does. He did an excellent job of polishing and sealing our quartzite countertops in our kitchen, and as he was doing so made sure to protect the floor and surrounding areas and cleaned up nicely upon finishing. The countertops looked like new, with their sheen revived. He also caulked around the sink and refreshed the grout behind the sink where it takes a lot of abuse. He is very knowledgeable about all types of countertop materials and was a pleasure to work with. Don't hesitate to give him a call when your beautiful countertops need loving care.

Duraclean was able to come on short notice when another cleaner wasn't able to show up as scheduled. Work was done in a timely, professional, efficient manner with great results. We had both carpet and tile cleaned and everything looked great. Very happy and would recommend to others.

This job was a residential vinyl tile floor in our basement. The floor was cleaned and multi-coats wax applied - looks awesome compared to what it was like before! Only down side we have is that we just had the baseboards and walls professionally painted and these now have wax on them. It is going to take a bit of work now to remove the wax and possibly repaint those areas. I would suggest that if your job has this scenario that you ask about possibly having the baseboards taped off before the wax is applied.

I needed my kitchen tile floor "brought back to life" because of the heavy traffic walking through everyday. I searched for a good quality but affordable floor care service but every business I contacted was way out of my price range. After talking to my neighbor about my dilemma, she recommended See Those Floors. She showed me her hardwood floors that they cleaned and sealed with a high gloss sealant, and I couldn't believe my eyes. The floor was beautiful! I knew then she had to pay way more than I was willing to, until she revealed the cost. She gave me the business card they left and I immediately scheduled a quote. My kitchen floor looks amazing now and I get so many compliments whenever I have company. I definitely recommend See Those Floors for any of your floor care needs.

Nick was very pleasant to work with. We had him install a glass and stone backsplash in our kitchen. He takes pride in his work and the finished product shows. In addition he was very clean in his work area, laying out drop clothes and taping edges to ensure nothing was damaged. I would recommend Guys Tile and Flooring for all of your tile and flooring needs. Jason Poland, Ohio

I hired John to do various improvements in my home and then found out he was also excellent in doing some landscaping with ideas in design that I would never have thought of. He did a great job and I was very pleased with the outcome. I certainly needed Improvements inside my home which consisted of plumbing and electrical work and floor tile and drywall. Once again he came up with ideas and design skills above and beyond my abilities and I was extremely satisfied. He was always timely but what impressed me was the fact he hardly ever took a break. A very hard worker always with a pleasant attitude. His original rate quote was certainly fair and honest and he was able to stay within the amount we agreed on. Everything was completed timely and he stayed with each job until they were finished. I was extremely satisfied with John and would consider him before any other contractor in the future.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

      • Old standard or electric toothbrush
      • Stiff bristle brush
      • Spray bottle
      • White vinegar
      • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
