For a few years we had problems with flies in our bathroom during the summer. Mike was determined to find the source. Mike and his master plumber, Norm, had repaired plumbing that was improperly installed. It was costly, but Mike and Norm were very conscientious and worked very hard to help solve our problems. We are pleased by their work ethic. Hopefully next year those flies will be history! Thank you and we'll be calling you again soon!

Michael Boc was a consummate professional throughout our complete master bathroom renovation process. His price quote was fair, he was on time and communicated exceptionally well as the project progressed, and he delivered a spectacular renovation despite having to deal with a few unforeseen obstacles (typical when dealing with a house built in the 1920s). I’d recommend Mr. Boc’s services to my own mother (in fact I did), and I intend to hire him again in the future for additional projects.

We started out asking for a quote to add a door to the mudroom of our new home we had just purchased. We also had some other projects in mind such as remodeling the master bathroom, updating the tub in the main bath and moving the laundry from the basement to the mudroom. Chuck was happy to give us a quote for all of the additional work and they were able take our visions for each project and make them all a reality. Along the way we also added to our project list and Chuck, Chris and team were able to complete all of the projects and many additions/changes to our satisfaction. If we were not happy with something there was no problem with changing it and they stand behind their work and will come back to fix something such as a leaky drain hose or clogged water line which is rare these days. We were so happy with all of the work done to our home that we also had them remodel my Mom & Dad's bathroom and add a 2nd bath to their basement. I have recommended Barnes & Sklare Remodeling to my friends and other family members as well. I would not hesitate to hire them again for future remodeling projects.

Robert Sparrow is a professional carpenter with excellent skills. He not only completed the job I requested, but he gave input on how the project could be improved upon. He cleaned up the work area when done, and I couldn't have been more pleased.

I recently had a new driveway, sidewalk and 10' x 20' pad behind my garage installed by Safe Guard Renovations. Dave Rogers, the owner of the company is a young ambitious professional. I was skeptical at first because he had only been in business for five years but there is no doubt that he had been exposed to this trade for many years prior. Dave employ's true tradesman, his main concern was to make me happy as the customer. The tear out, install and finish was done in three days. I couldn't be happier. I had some concerns and questions after the job was done and paid for, so I texted Dave and within five minutes he called me back. All is good. I would like to make mention of some of his guys as I said he has some extremely skilled tradesmen working for him. Mike, who was the senior of them all would spend time with me while I was micromanaging the project (getting in their way) and reassure me that the guys that were on the job know exactly what they're doing. Shane, is there master plumber who will repair, relocate and tie in all your drains and who also has an extensive back ground in the cement trades. Som, this man is a bull and will take charge of the cement pour and finishing, complete professional. There are many others but just can’t remember their names. Bottom line, I would recommend Safe Guard Renovations for your cement needs.

WOW! Paint Masters exceeded my expectations! I heard about them from a friend so decided to see if the good feedback was true, boy was it ever! They came to ogive me a free estimate almost right after i called, then i expressed that i needed the job done right away so even though they were booked for two months they came the next day and did the whole job fast! They painted the entire trim on my house (and repaired some rotted wood) all in a day, and it looks GREAT! These guys are top notch professional. I will use them again and tell EVERYONE about them! A plus plus for Paint Masters Painting! The owner directed me to thier website which is very informative at paintmasterspainting.net. If you need pro quality work done at a very low price, go with the paint masters!

Tom and his crew were professional, courteous, prompt and did great work. Everyone got so used to having them around, when they finished up after two months even the dogs missed them! Tom’s quote was the best price I got and he stayed on budget. Tom is a great guy and I will have him remodel my master bath hands down!

Our retirement plans involved moving back to my late parents' home. We reviewed three potential contractors before choosing Moore Home Remodeling. That was five years ago, and we have never regretted our decision. We absolutely love our new (old) home. Old friends, too, are impressed with the way MHR preserved the best of the old while bringing a 1955 house into the 21st century with the addition of a modern kitchen, a master bathroom, and finished basement/rec room.

My husband and I have used J&J for two big interior projects. We had custom wainscoting installed and painted in a large area. The work far exceeded our expectations and we were so thrilled that it encouraged us to use Justin's talented carpentry on a major renovation of our living room. This included fabrication and installation of a coffered ceiling, built in floor to ceiling book case, and transformation of existing tv cabinet into functional dry bar. Probably one of the best things about working with Justin is the vision he has for a project. In both projects, we had an idea of what we wanted, but no designs available or specific thoughts how to make it work. This was probably for the best, because the design that he came up with, the way he made things work truly speak to his talent as a carpenter. We could not be happier with any aspect of his work. From start to finish: 1. He was prompt in meeting with us and getting a fair quote 2. Started the project when stated 3. We both felt very comfortable having him and his partner in our home 4. Clean! We've never experienced anyone so considerate both during and after work. They treated our home like it was their own 5. The thing that really sold us was his attention to detail and perfection. He cared how things would look just as much as we did. We threw a couple of new ideas at him during the construction and he was more than welcome to the ideas and made them work. We are so happy with everything, we have plans to use J&J for a number of projects that previously we probably wouldn't have even bothered with. If you are looking for professional but approachable work, you really can't go wrong with J&J. We recommend them as highly as possible. We feel so lucky to have found "our guy".

Jeremy was able to come to my home today and do the facia board repair on my garage which was damaged in a wind storm. He was here when he said he would be here and did an exceptional job. I would use him for other carpenter work and will recommend him to friends and family.

We recently worked with Nate on a full master bathroom remodel. Our initial goal was to hire someone for the plumbing only but the price quote was so reasonable, we decided to hire Nate to do the whole job. This included a full demo; tear down of a built in closet, short dividing wall & shower stall, removal of the sink, cabinet & tub and removal of a window. The final product included an extra large 6 foot tub and full tile work around which was pristine, installation of a double vanity, drywall, new flooring & leveling, plumbing, electrical, installation of a new window, new fixtures and new exterior siding. The project took twice as long as initially quoted but all the issues uncovered during the job were taken care of with nothing glossed over. This guy and his crew are thorough, responsive and they do it all. I would definitely recommend him for your next remodel job!

I needed a sliding shower door replace in our master bathroom. Drew came out right away to look over the job and gave me an estimate. We were able to schedule the installation for the next day. They took out the old door and replaced it in approximately 1 1/2 hours. They cleaned up all the mess afterward so that all I was left with was a new shiny door! I appreciated Drew's attention to detail and could tell he feels strongly about customer service. He even called me the following day to see if everything was completed to my satisfaction!! I would certainly hire Collins Construction again.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
