Pro's Mulch and Tree Service did an excellent job. When I contacted Pro's in the morning they were able to come out later that day to give me a very fair and reasonable quote. That was on a Monday and Jay said he would be able to schedule me in the following week. Well three days later I came home and to my surprise the tree was gone. Turns out they had an earlier opening and he was able to fit me in. They had done an excellent job of removing the tree and cleaning up afterword. I am very pleased with Pro's Mulch and would highly recommend them.

Jason stayed in contact with me from first estimate to scheduling the work. He and Trevor were quick and the job looks great. They added on taking out a tree, since it was pretty overgrown and unattractive. Once I know what I want to do plant where they removed the old bushes, I will contact them again. Highly recommended! It looks bare now, but I didn't like the 'before'.

Quoted within a day and showed up when they said they would for preparing beds for planting. We were so impressed with them we had them back to plant our trees and plants. They gave me different planting options, which were better than what I was going to do. Turned out beautifully and will definitely use them again.

I was very happy with the tree removal Bill Witchey provided. We had a 60' maple with 2' trunk that was near dead. I wanted it cut down, the wood and trash removed, and the stump ground down. Bill provided the best quote (of the 3 I requested) and responded promptly. He called me to let me know his plans and once I agreed, he sent me a quote in writing the next day. Bill and his helper arrived started work the morning of 10 July 2017. Although they were interrupted twice by storms, they were able to get the branches and tree down that day. They also used a chipper to clean up all the small branches. Bill and helper returned the next day (7/11/2017) with a trailer and stump grinder. They finished the job to my satisfaction by the end of the day. This included raking the yard for debris, cutting and splitting the trunk logs, loading the logs on the trailer and taking it all away. Again, they were interrupted at least twice for storms, but worked hard to get the job done. I would definitely hire Bill again.

I would highly recommend Charter Oaks who took down a dead 50 ft Locust tree in a little over three hours! They even were kind enough to shred a bigger branch that had fallen off the tree a week before. They also left the yard better than when they came. With two more very big trees in our yard I'm sure we'll be using them again to trim those up. Five stars!

Sam, from Mountain Solutions, contacted me soon after I described my project on Thumbtack. The project was laying new flooring in my kitchen and removing some cupboards. He came out and looked over the project and helped me decide what material I needed to complete the project. He told me what I needed. I got something a little different, but Sam is flexible, and did a fabulous job on my floor. He arrived on time, prepped the area, did the work, and cleaned up after he was done. The attention to detail is something I haven't seen for many years and we are all very pleased with the results. He and his assistant were careful that my cats didn't run out the door. I am planning to have Sam do some other projects for me immediately. He and his company are exactly who I wanted to do my jobs. I will definitely have Sam select the materials, from now on, so I don’t drop the ball, and he has what he recommends. I have included pictures of the completed project. I feel like I struck gold!

This was likely the fastest request to estimate to completion. I had my front areas, sides of the house and backyard worked on by Rex, Chase and fam. Work included removal of excessively high dirt against the foundation (some regrading here too), removal of dead/dying/just needs to go shrubbery, weeding, edging of all areas, top soil and mulch, even fixing loose areas of a paver patio too. Everything done in a day and it would have taken me months. Very happy with the transformation. I opted to not go for new plants at this time as I want to see what is out there and add to it over time.

I contacted Nova on Tues, a confirmed appointment to look at the tree in the morning on Fri, an estimate given Fri afternoon, the tree was removed on Sun. The cleanup was excellent. Mario offered to give me suggestions for planting trees. He did his own research and provided me with a number of trees to consider. I will highly recommend Nova Tree Soutions.

Stan was hired to clean out my gutters and remove a garbage disposal but while here I "picked his brain" on a few other issues in my house. He was more than willing to look at a few other things for me and ended up reconnecting my furnace pipe and replacing a leaky faucet and also explaining a few things about my furnace as I had some concerns with it. I would hire Stan again, he was easy going and a hard worker and I would recommend him to anyone. Nice guy too! Thanks Stan, Happy Holidays and thanks for all you did!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
