Tom and his crew replaced 102' of cedar fencing in our backyard. His work is outstanding. He's very experienced and provided practical solutions to issues that cropped up on the job (always do). His team is very polite. Tom communicates well, keeps his word, showed up on time, delivered exactly what he said he would and was flexible to incorporate other needs for us. A pleasure to work with - will recommend him to others and would definitely consider using him again for other projects.

Bonnie and her team installed a system in our backyard and designed and implemented a total landscaping makeover for us. We gave her our budget and our top priorities and she stayed on target financially while still picking out the best plants and design for our lifestyle! We are so very happy with the results and love spending time in our backyard! Also, we had just moved in and our realtor told us the changes Hydra-Hose made added an incredible amount of value to our home!

Bryan Trent calls himself a "Handyman"--however, while both handy, as well as a man with tremendous integrity and character, he exceeds this label. Bryan came to us on the heels of four different construction-remodelers, providing an excellent comparison pool. In short, Bryan Trent has now been finishing our 1200 square foot remodel, and we have hired him as our permanent Handyman. More specifically, allow me to describe his particular skills and abilities for others considering his employment. 1) His construction skills are outstanding--we have been most impressed with the mantel, completion of our deck, mirror trimout, and hardware mounting on decorative wooden panels he made; 2) He can and will do most anything asked of him. If he is not heavily skilled in an area, he finds resources that prep him to complete special projects, such as the installation of a screen door on double panel patio doors, raising our treadmill to proper height with a wooden block design, and trimming the kitchen with retro moulding, to name a few; 3) While not a licensed plumber, he has skills in this area as well. As stated, he can fix most anything; 4) He took his time to insure high caliber work, respected our property (and we are extremely particular about this!...e.g., he wears "booties" over his shoes when walking on our new carpet)--and our time. 5) He offers a very fair price. After numerous contractors and construction personnel, we would, and have, hired Bryan Trent as our "Handyman," but he is really a contractor, carpenter, plumber, and whatever meets your needs. While working for you, he will afford you respect, listen to your needs, communicate with you concerning your wants, and give you his very best effort. We could not be more pleased to have found and hired, Mr. Bryan Trent via Thumbtack. If you do the same, he will not dissapoint.

Brad poured a back porch and a base for a built in brick grill and they are flawless. It was a tough job because all of the cement had to be carted to the backyard but his crew did an excellent job with very little impact on my property.

Michael and his team did an amazing job on our project. It was a large one: install french drains, replace mulch with stone in front and back flowerbeds, extend the back flowerbeds, build a custom pergola and design and install a custom waterfall on our new pool. He and his crew were professional, meticulous in their work and answered all of our questions along the way. They were even good with our dogs! They worked hard to help us create the backyard oasis we were looking for, and it is more than a job well done.

My backyard used to be a swamp. Not anymore! Kyle came in and immediately knew how to resolve the drainage issue. Just the other day, it rained hard, and an area of my yard which previously has NEVER been dry after rain ended up not having one ounce of standing water - AMAZING! Call Kyle. He is a kind, honest, hard working individual with pricing that blows the competition away. He is trying to help you, not get rich off of you.

Did a great job removing the rose bushes from our old garden. He hauled everything off and left us with fresh soil to start over with this spring as we requested. Very friendly and professional. Would definitely hire again.

Dee was very professional and courteous when I spoke with her on the phone. I needed my lawn done asap and she made sure that happened. I was given a quote and services were completed within days. My backyard was really overgrown and my front yard and flower beds hadn't been attended to all year. He mowed, edged and replaced mulch. Everything looks wonderful and I look forward to having Three Hearts maintain my lawn!

Rene did an outstanding job. He showed up on time, cut the grass trimmed and and edged tmy lawn. I have a very large lawn with a difficult landscape to navigate. Rene handled it with ease in a timely mannner. He also trimmed several trees in the backyard in a very clean manner. Rene knows what he is doing. I would highly recommend him for any landscaping or lawn work that needs to be done.

Beautiful is not enough to say about the job David, owner of Benchmark, did to part of my backyard. He made a plain area look like paradise. My only regret is that I wish that I had enough money for him to do my complete yard. A couple of days and they were finished. Professional, personable, cleaned up afterwards and they were out so I could enjoy the magnificent view. Thanks David. I would refer you with my highest recommendation.

Brandan is awesome! We moved to Bartlesville in April 2015 after buying a foreclosed home built in the 50's. Brandan helped us from day one with a complete demo and rebuild from the studs, rafters and joists. It was a huge project. He replaced all our plumbing with new PEX piping, and installed new drainpipes in the entire house. He installed fresh drywall on walls and ceilings and completed the mudding, taping, and sanding. He put in new subfloors, added 2 new walls, closed off a doorway and created a walk thru from the kitchen. He helped us install all new cabinets and also built several custom cabinets that saved us money. He installed all new ducting for our new HVAC and a new whole house fan in the attic. He installed a complete new bathroom for us. The list of what he did is endless! I can't remember it all! We have purchased a second property and plan to build a rental home on it. Brandan will be totally involved in the entire project from start to finish. He also is going to help us put on a new roof on our large detached garage and build a deck off the bedroom and install french doors leading to it. Hire Brandan, you will be happy! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
