Hired on Thumbtack

Well, long story. Early last year, I hired them to paint my house and garage. I already had the paint and paid them 1/2 down. I told them I was in no big hurry, but I wanted it done before Winter hit. They said they were going to roll and brush the paint on. Then, they said Sherman-Williams told them that spray painting was better for steel siding. The house has steel siding. The garage is wood. They kept asking for advances, which I paid. At the start of Winter, they finally "finished." I was going through some health issues, and did not inspect the job properly, but finished paying them anyway. They left the swinging garage doors unlocked, and they blew open during a storm - completely ruining the hinges. While inspecting the doors, I saw what a horrible job they had done on the two sides of the garage I could see. It looked like they had used canned spray paint. I was disgusted, and just blew it off as a bad mistake. Then, I saw that they had neither scraped nor painted the two far sides of the garage! My health issues took precedence, so I didn't contact them again. I figured it was pointless. But, Kevin called me a few months ago about doing some more work for me that we had discussed during the paint work. I told him about the poor paint job and the two sides that weren't even touched. He came and looked, and blamed the other guy. He said he would fix the problems. I didn't hear from him again until I posted on Facebook for recommendations for someone to do some yard work. He texted me, wanting to do that work too. I told him that I needed someone who is reliable. I have not heard anything else from him. The house looks OK, I guess, but there is over spray everywhere, and spilled paint everywhere on the lawn and the concrete. A big mess. They made no effort to clean up their mess after "finishing" the job. They have no clue as to how to run a business - especially when it comes to the customer satisfaction that is critical to getting referrals and good reviews. It's sad to see.
