FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $495 to edit a standard-length novel (80,000-100,000 words).
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will edit the first few pages as a sample if desired. Once hired, I ask writers to put their text into a Word document and place the manuscript in Dropbox. I use Word's revision tracking feature so writers can easily see my suggestions and choose which to accept. I send a link to the first edited chapter to ensure that what I'm doing and is compatible with the writer's expectations, then I provide progress reports on a regular basis. A standard-length novel will take approximately 30 days to edit and I provide weekly progress notes.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Know what you want and what you're getting. If you need copy editing, you're asking someone to fix the grammar, sentence structure and punctuation. That's a lot different than working with an editor who will help craft the story by providing advice on structure and details that should be included or omitted. If you're hiring a writer, think about whether you want him to create a piece within a few guidelines you provide or you want a ghost writer who will tell your precise story in a professional manner.
