We recently purchased an older home that needed some much needed cosmetic repairs (painting, texturing, new countertops in kitchen and bathrooms, new farmhouse sink and backsplash, and a custom built shed). Kaphar did a fantastic job in all aspects! All the work was done in the time frame that we were given, and the quality is top notch! We are very happy with everything Charles and Kaphar did for us and our new home!

I hired this company to strip a sealer from my tile, clean the tile, and seal the grout in several rooms and halls. I have never had a company work harder to make sure I was satisfied with their work. They exceeded my expectations. I plan to hire them to clean my carpet.

Doris and her team were fantastic! They arrived on time, and immediately got to work. For the first cleaning, their whole team showed up! They were very thorough! I asked them to come out again and do a basic cleaning. For their second cleaning, they were still fantastic! They again, arrived on time, and immediately got to work. Again, very thorough! I highly recommend A&D Cleaning Services! Doris and her team were fantastic!

Chris did a great job on the tile repair in the bathroom. In addition he moved and replaced an electric outlet and switched out the sink faucet which required some additional plumbing work. I feel like I got great value because I was able to get the work done using one guy instead of three.

Mike did a fantastic job with all the tile work in my bathroom. He was very flexible in how I wanted it done and also knowledgeable in how certain things should look and be installed. The team was professional and extremely hard working, they were able to knock this out in 2 and a half days! On top of being great at what they do they also quoted a fair price that underbid the competition. Highly recommend.

Clean and Dry was great! We needed our home cleaned after we moved in and Taffney was quick to respond and was able to come out the next day. They did quick cleaning and dusting off of the whole house with some deep cleanings in our restrooms and kitchen. We were very pleased with the quality and timeliness of the cleaning. I would highly recommend them to any one needing a quality home cleaning.

Patrick is my son but I have used him on many of my Interior Design jobs. His skills are well rounded and I could call on him to do most all the jobs I needed. He has assisted in remodeling a bathroom to setting up a sound system.

Justin did an outstanding job on our house following the May 20 Moore Tornado. He tiled the floor in our entire house, did a custom shower in one bathroom, and tiled above the tub in another bathroom. He always communicated very with me on what was going on and if anything was needed on my end. He worked long hours, kept a clean work space, and finished the job in a timely manner. He came very highly recommended and I can see why, just as his company name says, he truly does go above and beyond.

Michael and his team were outstanding. Very professional and personable. They worked around my schedule, were careful with the things in my home, addressed all of my questions/concerns with the job. My carpets look great as well as my furniture. They also sealed my grout in the bathrooms, kitchen, and entry way. They explained everything as they were doing it and were very affordable in their prices. I would recommend them to anyone!

Armando and his helpers did a great job exchanging old fan/light fixtures and light fixtures in two bathrooms. He set up a day and time good for me and arrived on time. I'm very pleased with them not just as electricians. I was very impressed with them as people who cleaned up after their work and took pride in their work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
