Shane is AMAZING. We hired him to renovate our bathroom and I could not be happier with the results. Shane is a perfectionist at a very reasonable price. He was punctual, responsive, and kept us informed every step of the way. Not only did he completely renovate the bathroom, he took on tons of odds and ends jobs around the condo. Everything from patching walls to leveling our cabinets. I could not recommend Shane highly enough for any job you have. We will definitely use him for future work. Thank you, Shane!!

We hired Trentco to shorten and re-install crown moulding for a small bathroom remodel. The final product looks great and overall we are pleased with the work that was done, including a few minor repair items that Trentco also performed for us since we were at their minimum job amount. Trentco did not use a drop cloth and this resulted in spilled caulking that Trentco failed to clean up before leaving. Our newly tiled floors had to be cleaned including removing dried caulk from the grout lines which proved to be a time-consuming task. Trentco is an able carpenter but may need to protect work surfaces going forward and taking a bit more care in project wrap up and cleanup to get a higher rating. Good value for the price if you don’t have to spend time cleaning up for things that are easy to avoid.

Congenial, explains work, very fair pricing and excellent work. We had a leak under the kitchen sink. It turned out to be the decades old garbage disposal that was corroding (big hole). He had a new disposal in his truck ready to go, so he did the repair immediately. We will be using him again.

Gabe doesn't promise anything he can't deliver. He takes pride in his work and it is reflected in the quality and craftsmanship of everything he does. His first project for us was building a pergola to add to our deck. We get harsh west sun and wanted something open, but also something that added some shelter. We use all the time. It's better than we ever expected. Our next project was a major remodel of our master bathroom. I smile every time I walk in. Everything from the tile to the shower to the tub to the sink. He did a fantastic job. Gabe hires great subs, when necessary, and they are equally as professional. He helped us find a reliable painting contractor that did an excellent job painting our house, and found another crew to refinish our kitchen cabinets. We are very pleased and will definitely hire R Shields Construction for our next project(s)! --Dana Box and Lucy Dolman, Sand Springs, Oklahoma

We took 9X9 bathroom down to studs. The tile guy did sheetrock and all the tile. Tile used was Carrara Porcelain on shower walls and wall in toilet area and Carrara Marble on floors and Vanity. Ben Martin did the tile work and we were very pleased with his work and professionalism. We are very happy with the way our bathroom turned out and would definitely use Daniel Martin The Tile Guy again.

I highly recommend Matt and his crew. We had them replace a shower in our master bathroom upstairs. They took the time and care to cover our staircase and the path to the shower so that the carpet and flooring wouldn't get worn. They gutted the old shower, pulled out and replaced the insulation in the walls, rewired the nearby electrical outlets as they had been giving me some trouble, raised the ceiling inside the shower to the level of the rest of the bathroom ceiling, and made everything just look great. They did a great job with cleanup and I will absolutely be hiring them again for more remodel jobs. Use this company with confidence!

I would highly recommend Reed's Remodel & Repair for your home improvement projects. They have recently completed several projects for my Mom, including renovating the kitchen - they repainted the room and installed new cabinets, backsplash, counter tops, flooring, lighting, blinds, ceiling fan and put in a new kitchen sink. In the living room, they installed new flooring, a new front door and took out the sliding glass door to the patio and replaced it with beautiful french doors. Finally, they installed new a toilet fixture in the bathroom. They performed the renovations in a highly efficient, professional manner at a very reasonable rate. Great job and I will definitely use them again and refer them to friends/family!!!

Bridget Labadie did an amazing job transforming our home. Labadie Construction was contracted to add an entire second floor to our house consisting of a gameroom and two bedrooms each with their own bathroom areas. Everything went smoothly and she also undated our downstairs powder bath and Kitchen as well as adding hand forged custom Iron stair rails that were stunning. I would highly recommend her and her company to anyone looking to do a first class detailed project.

Brandan is awesome! We moved to Bartlesville in April 2015 after buying a foreclosed home built in the 50's. Brandan helped us from day one with a complete demo and rebuild from the studs, rafters and joists. It was a huge project. He replaced all our plumbing with new PEX piping, and installed new drainpipes in the entire house. He installed fresh drywall on walls and ceilings and completed the mudding, taping, and sanding. He put in new subfloors, added 2 new walls, closed off a doorway and created a walk thru from the kitchen. He helped us install all new cabinets and also built several custom cabinets that saved us money. He installed all new ducting for our new HVAC and a new whole house fan in the attic. He installed a complete new bathroom for us. The list of what he did is endless! I can't remember it all! We have purchased a second property and plan to build a rental home on it. Brandan will be totally involved in the entire project from start to finish. He also is going to help us put on a new roof on our large detached garage and build a deck off the bedroom and install french doors leading to it. Hire Brandan, you will be happy! Metro Remodel and flooring remodeled my entire salon from putting in new flooring, painting walls, a compete bathroom remodel, installed new lighting, crown molding, installed wash stations, cut a doorway between the two spaces I had leased and trimmed it out beautifully and built out facial and massage and nail rooms. The remodel was done in a timely manner and was well above my expectations. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them. I love my new salon.

i had an entire (and extensive) kitchen remodel! Before the remodel, the floor was beneath the tile was warping, several rotted floor joists, cabinetry was also dysfunctional and more.. Mr McGuire and his team showed up slightly early everyday, and performed EXCEPTIONAL work! the fit and finish was far above and beyond anything id come to expect through speaking to sales people, looking at floor models, or browsing other homes of much more elaborate achitecture... i am beyound satisfied with the work performed and the timely manner in which it was completed.. Thanks again Ross, and ill be contacting you soon for bathroom renovation, window replacement, and hardwood floor resurfacing as discussed during the kitchen project...

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

            • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
            • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
            • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
            • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
            • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

            • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
            • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
              • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
            • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
            • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
            • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.

            Who remodels bathrooms?

The professional best equipped to handle bathroom remodeling is a general contractor. A general contractor is typically licensed by the state or region in which they work to carry out home remodeling projects. To receive licensing, they must generally demonstrate their knowledge of construction and building and safety codes. General contractors act as the organizer for the entire bathroom remodeling project, ensuring that each element (new tile, shower pan replacement, lighting installation, etc.) is completed at the appropriate time by the proper contractor. Before hiring a general contractor, it’s wise to do your research. In addition to getting several competitive bids, here are questions to ask:

            • May I see before-and-after photos of some of your recent bathroom remodels?
            • Will I need permits for this project? Do you apply for those?
            • May I see proof of insurance and licenses?
            • Can we have a written contract outlining scope of work, budget and timeline?
            • Will you be here each day overseeing the work?
