About
My Methodology is effective in assisting people create meaningful change in behaviors and practices that are harmful or disruptive to their lives and relationships. In my practice I use an approach of modified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is an approach based upon basic behavioral and cognitive principles. Following this approach I acknowledge that there may be behaviors that cannot be controlled through rational or logical thought. CBT is problem focused, undertaken for specific problems and action oriented. As a therapist I work to assist you as a client in selecting specific strategies to help address those problems. Helping people! Many people do not understand their purpose. I am here to help people to engage every effort and resource to have a healthy life. I do this so when they tell their story it will honestly be filled with happiness.

Hired on Thumbtack

We hired Douglas Balzer to officiate our mid September backyard wedding in Vancouver, WA. Our ceremony was to start at 3pm with a rehearsal set for approximately 12:30, Douglas and his wife Jan arrived around 12 and left a couple hours after the ceremony (reception immediately followed). We were so relieved and thrilled that we had chosen to hire Douglas, not only because he was extremely affordable, but because he 'knocked it out of the park'! The custom ceremony he created to enhance our vows, and tell our guests the story of us, was so well prepared and beautiful. We were also pleasantly surprised by the added bonus of Jan's services, as she was a huge help with the rehearsal and choreography of the bridal party. Douglas and Jan worked together with us to ensure everything about the ceremony was orchestrated exactly to our wishes and pulled off without any complications or issues. Lastly, the Balzers are warm and caring people who very obviously love the work they do and take pride in that work to help couples transition into marriage, I would definitely highly recommend them!

Although we ended up holding off on pursuing counseling. Doug was very accommodating to what we needed. In that respect I would highly recommend him.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I do 6 hours of graduate level studies every year to keep up with current developments in my field of study and profession.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When looking for a provider you should be able to make a pre-client appointment to make sure the provider is a good fit to work with you. Of course credential are important, but if there not an intuitive sense of comfort and trust initially you should probably continue to interview providers. This is important to me as a provider. A client or clients must have an innate sense they are able to trust me with their issues and problems. I always recommend let's meet and have coffee to chat. Get to know me. If I am a good fit, great. If not - then we got a chance to meet someone new and have a good cup of coffee.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I take my work serious and it is not easy. It requires continued investment in continuing education. No one should enter into this profession unless they are ready to really deal with deep issues others are struggling with. You need to be able to process others emotions while being compassionate and empathetic. There is no room for being judgmental in the doctor client relationship.
