It is more than just showing up and photographing the clients. When special attention has been given with planning of location, what clothes and colors, what time of day, kids are fed and rested. All of these thing go into the final outcome. It doesn't end with just the session either. When photographers charge a session fee, this is like a creative fee. Then, they also spend sometimes hours in front of the computer editing. It's not just that one hour that goes into taking your photograph. Also important is that we need to print these pictures. Digital won't be around forever, but a print can be. Photographers need to educate this new generation that prints are important and should not be overlooked. When people have a flood, the first thing they say is, "Get the pictures!!!"
