Shonda of Mobile Pet Grooming impressed me immediately with her quiet and calm. She is able to handle my wild cat handle the cat gently. Speaking with her and watching her was very reassuring. The cat's claws were trimmed, her coat (a matted mess) was tidily clipped (including the sanitary area), and she got a thorough bath, all for a great price!!

Sarah, at Oak Grove Grooming, is friendly, easy to work as she quickly accommodated my nutty schedule and FOUR doodle dogs, and she has reasonable prices. When I picked up my pups, they were clean and well groomed - but also, and equally important - they were happy. They'd clearly been in good hands all day. I recommend Oak Grove Grooming.

Drew was amazing. He came in the yard to meet Ellie and make her comfortable with him for their first meeting. She is going on 15 with arthritis. He was so gentle and spent a great deal of time grooming her. She came back happy and beautiful! Thank you Drew! We can’t wait to see you again! Debbie and Ellie

She was accommodating and took care of my pet.

My work stands out because I've worked in the Veterinary field for over 16 years. I have a certification in Emergency Medicine and your pet will have the utmost care when with me.

I love dogs, and I have a personal experience with them. I can walk them multiple times a day and check up on them whenever needed.

We are animal lovers! We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and if space allows, we would continue to grow our numbers. We love walking our dogs, getting outside, and just spending time with our animals. Your dog doesn't have to be great on a leash, because we too have been there and are able to handle the dog in a positive manner. We are also willing to dog watch/house sit. We would not stay at your house but can stop by several times a day to spend time with your animals and take them out on walks. We have experience with all types of animals: dogs, cats, birds, fishes, snakes, and hamsters. We are professionals first and foremost (I am an RN and my partner is a sales representative). We have very flexible schedules that allow us to meet your needs!

Hi! I'm Priscilla and I'd love to care for your pets next time you're out of town or away home. About Me Ever since I can remember, I have always been around and loved animals . My love for pets is what sparked me to enter the world of pet sitting. I have been a dog walker and pet sitter and have been boarding dogs and cats for for family and friends since I was a teenager, but decided to do it full time for over a year now. I understand the importance of trusting someone to care for your "kids". Know that I will treat your fur babies the way I want my child to be treated. I will make sure to create a fun and comfortable environment for your pets and follow all your care instructions. When your pets are in my care, I assure you that your pets are going to have a grand time, whilst being safe.I am a stay at home mom which makes me available almost everyday at any time, and will be available for last-minute and emergency appointments. I am also a military wife, and we have a beautiful toddler daughter. My daughter loves animals especially dogs and cats, and she is always eager to play with them. She is very gentle and playful that I can guarantee your pet/s will love her. We live in Mountain Park in Lake Oswego and surrounded with amazing parks, walkways and lakes that are dog friendly.

I am a housecleaner and a nanny. I also take care of pets and do yard work. My career began at the age of 13 when I became a certified children's storyteller in the organization of Child Evangelism Fellowship, and also in the same year, gaining another certificate for taking classes for babysitting children. I have been hired many times for housecleaning and yard work, which I love, and pet care, which I have always looked forward too. I am very motivated and I love to take care of others and their things and possessions. I work hard everyday to meet every needs that I can and to bring as many smiles as I can to the faces of others.

I have worked with pets in Brazil for three years training and caring for dogs and cats. Now, I move to Oregon to study aviation, and I am looking for the same job because I love it, and that's one of the best things to do for me. If you are interested, let me know. I am available seven days a week anytime. Thank you. - Adriano

Hello! My name is Megan and I am a student at Portland Community College. I am a rabid animal lover, so I decided creating my own pet sitting and walking business. It would be a great way for me to make money. I am willing to travel to you and my price is negotiable. I promise to take the best care of your animal.

We provide dog walking & pet care services for all breeds. Whether your dog needs a quick 15 minute potty break or prefers an hour long stroll through the park, we're happy to spend time with your pooch while you are away. We also provide pet sitting services for cats, rabbits and all your other furry friends.

Kung Fu Shih-Tzu is a full-service pet grooming salon in Vancouver, WA with over 30 years of experience. We are a specialized "all breed" pet grooming service provider, while following the National Dog Groomer's Association of America (NDGAA) and American Kennel Club (AKC) standards. This means that your pet will be well-taken care of and loved on a personal level. We will also meet and exceed the health, cleanliness and treatment standards set forth by the NDGAA and AKC.

I'm a caring and intelligent individual with a love of animals and great attention to detail. I love taking care of pets, especially dogs. I'm a very clean individual and love to help out by cleaning other people's homes or helping to clean out after moving. I'm also pretty good at painting and light maintenance around the home. I have two bachelor's degrees: counseling/psych and social science.

I have over 10 years experience taking care of dogs, cats, hamsters, and almost any animal you can think of! I am currently studying to be a veterinarian.

Hire me if you want a fabulous pet sitter. I pet sit. I prefer staying at the pet owner's house. I walk and exercise the pets, and also am willing to train and groom (brush their fur, bathe them, etc.) them, too.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
