I've worked with a dozen contractors over the last year on an extensive home remodel and the best experience I've had, by far, has been with Zeev. His motivation is 100% to create a finished product that I will be proud of and he did so in the process of executing an extremely complex electrical plan. I could not recommend Zeev highly enough.

Edward Dass was great! He was able to come same day, then didn't have a problem with me being a few minutes late. His workmanship was great too! He installed the 3 lights and patched the hole above the island and above the table. Great work!! Will certainly hire him again if/when the need arises.

A&C Innovative Contractors replaced our existing backyard cedar fence in West LInn. The quality of work was excellent and the crew worked quickly and kept to the schedule in spite of finding large rocks and concrete where the post holes were dug . They also made an attractive arbor over the gate which adds a highlight to the project. This was all done for a very competitive price. We intend to call on A&C Innovative Contractors for further work in the future.

Richard and his team did a great job. Definitely will hire him (soon) in the future for fencing and possibly other jobs around our home. Communication was good, his cost was fair and materials used/quality of work were much higher quality than a previous job done by another contractor.

Lloyd submitted the best quote for the repairs to our fencing that did not survive a recent wind and snow storm. He was not able to attack the project as quickly as a couple of contractors could have but was within our needs. The work was performed on the day he said he would and in one day. The quality of work was great considering the frigid working conditions. His professional and polite nature was appreciated. We will likely call on him again for future needs in the complex.

We used Eric and his team for an almost 2.5 month project after moving back into our old house that was rented out for several years. Initially we were only going to use them for external and internal painting and cabinet refinishing, but we quickly found that we liked working with them and appreciated Eric's commitment, his obvious knowledge and attention to detail which led to us hiring them to replace our flooring and other various projects around the house from the shower door installation, carpentry work to smaller electrical work. We lived in the house while Eric's team did the work, which can get pretty overwhelming. They communicated well, respected our privacy and worked with kids nap times, weekend trips, etc. I can honestly say that I could not imagine this project going any better considering the circumstances. We were satisfied with the final product and we found the pricing to be reasonable. We found especially the painting job to be top notch, this is definitely their specialty. Eric also wrapped some beams and accent walls in cedar. Those turned out awesome as well. I highly recommend using those guys for any project, big or small. They have pride in their work and at the end you will not feel taken advantage of, which is too often the case when working with other contractors.

We called this company for a bid on scraping and painting the facia around our home and Lino gave us a fair price. He not only gave us a great price but went the extra mile; he scrubbed and washed our gutters, and cleaned them out as he went along. (It was extremely hot outside but he just kept working.) They look so much better, and the paint job is excellent. He also repaired a hole in the gutter, and then he did a sheetrock repair on top of that! It was so nice to not have to call yet anther company to do that repair! We will definitely be calling this polite, energetic owner of Home Solutions for all our handy man needs in the future.

Jose and his uncle Moses came out to patch a hole in our drywall and we were pleased with the results so asked them to come back to fix some other cracks. Those also turned out nicely. I would recommend them for a drywall project. You will have good results.

Victor replaced a tar roof on my office building. I am very pleased with the new roof. What makes Victor shine is his honesty and willingness to work through difficult situations such as short notice changes to the roofing schedule. He has a great crew that works hard. Victor is easy to reach (a real plus for a contractor) and quick to respond to messages. I would use him again for any work on my building that he is qualified for.

Simply the best! Paul was referred to me by a friend and is the kind of person you NEED in your contact list. Kind, considerate, timely, honest - not the typical words used to describe contractors but the perfect ones for Paul. We have used his services many times for projects at our home and business and have referred him to many friends and colleagues. Do yourself a favor and call Paul. You won't be disappointed.

Our job was a new concrete entry area and an addition to our pool deck. This was a small job that other contractors didn't want. Travis responded immediately and we had the bid and job completed within a week. The crew was very hard working and did a good job. Great service!

Chad and his crew did a great job from the beginning. He was the only contractor that arrived on time for our first meeting, had the bid in when he arranged it, and had a fair price for the work planned. His crew built us a new beautiful subway tile shower with a marble bench,a glass door and marble floor. As well, they laid a new laminate counter top in the kitchen, installed a new sink, did subway tile back splash and painted our whole kitchen, including cabinets. There were many small details and obstacles working in a 1934 home, but Chad rolled with the punches gracefully, while showing an appreciation for the vintage character of our house. I will continue to work with his company and have already referred him to two co-workers. We are more than satisfied and happy with our remodel!

Mario did a great job installing and staining our new fence! He was easy to communicate with and quoted a very fair and competitive price for the job. In the busy summer, he was able to install the fence within a week which was great! I couldn't get other contractors to even get me a bid within a week. With Mario, he bid the day after we initially spoke and completed the job within a week. We are very happy with our fence and will call Mario first the next time we need similar work done

Had some other issues arise which were addressed by another contractor and the fact that Mike and crew returned timely was a nice perk when dealing in the contracting world. They were clean with their work habits which was aporeciated since they were working around a pool.

I remodeled our home last year and anyone who has done this knows that finding reliable sub contractors is tough. Finding an honest, fair, caring and dynamic contractor is close to impossible. I am not going to focus on the quality of the wok because I am sure most of the comments on here will make that clear. What I will tell you is the other things outside of the scope of work he did. One example was while Noah was working on the kitchen, he heard me talking to the electrician about the fact that they had drilled the holes for the outside lights too high and the only way to fix it would be replace the siding. At some point Noah went outside to take a look at it and offered later that day to come up with a solution. I got a call on the weekend after Noah had finished the job and to my amazement he said he would like to come by and make custom blocks to mount the lights on which should fix the issue without having to replace the siding. Long story short, he came on a Sunday and made them for me. I knew he was awesome by this time but to leave your family to help us was a true testimony of the person he is. By the way we love our kitchen too....

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
