Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I teach online and out of my home studio in Oregon City. I used to also teach out of a studio in Portland, and I may again but that's not settled yet as of June 2021. I have a music degree and over 20 years experience with all ages and levels. *Free* intro lesson, no obligation. Discount options available case-by-case. I can easily teach the common rote approaches to guitar, but my focus now is on conscious music coaching, creative exploration, and the Kite Guitar (a revolutionary high-resolution tuning system for harmonies not possible on a regular instrument). If you want to really understand music in a more holistic and in-depth manner, you'll especially appreciate my teaching. Of course, I adapt my lessons to the specific interests and personalities of each student. Read more about my background and unique teaching philosophies at wolftune.com.

Guitar Lessons

Aaron is AWESOME! My special needs daughter and I take lessons together. He is VERY patient with her and makes sure she leaves every lesson being able to do something (strumming, rhythms, etc). He records every lesson so you can see progress over time. He even accommodates an odd invoicing process without hesitation. We’re so happy to have found Aaron!

Guitar Lessons (for adults)

Aaron is and excellent instructor and fun to take lessons from. I have learned more from him in a few weeks than I have in months from other instructors.

Guitar Lessons

I have been working with Aaron for about 8-9 months after finding him on Thumbtack. He is extremely knowledgable and makes each lesson unique and fun. I look forward to my lessons and have already improved more than I could have dreamed in such a short period of time.

Guitar Lessons

Aaron has been very good at getting me to unlearn some bad habits and cover the basics of flamenco guitar in a very short amount of time. His personality and mine seem to be very complementary. I like his technical explanations of material but also ability to pull back and just play some music. I should practice more between sessions more to get the most out of it.

Guitar Lessons

Aaron provides unique guitar instruction, meeting my son at his entry point and interest level. Each lesson is fun. Aaron balances traditional instruction with other methods. My son is learning pieces of music theory, the science behind music, and details about his instrument, all while learning to play. I highly recommend this teach.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Besides my set rates, I do sliding-scale discounts, group classes, and some bartering. I'm always willing to discuss how to make lessons feasible to any dedicated student.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I do a free intro lesson where we get a chance to get to know one another. I recommend appropriate resources outside of lessons and am available between lessons to answer questions by email. I see myself as a coach as well as teacher, and I do whatever is needed to help students succeed. That means helping students build good practice routines or whatever else they need help with — not limited to technical things about guitar.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I took lessons myself for years, recorded several albums, toured with a band, got a classical music degree, worked for years in a guitar shop, reviewed 800+ guitar methods and other books, taught all sorts of students over more than 20 years, and nearly started a PhD in cross-cultural musicology (but gave that up to focus on a music-related non-profit). I have particular expertise in music tuning theory (and play guitars that use alternative tuning systems that can play more blended chords and also non-Western musical structures). I also have a side expertise in free software and free culture issues (I use a GNU/Linux computer and license all my own work under Creative Commons; I have helped many students learn how to engage with online resources without giving up privacy or control).
