FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I saw imagery made by Dave Black, a sports photographer and Nikon Ambassador. From that moment I was hooked. A while back I emailed Dave to thank him for the inspiration and to share one of my images. To my surprise he emailed straight back and said: "Hi Shane. Thanks for you very kind email today. Glad to hear that your Speedlight work is doing well for you. Some great images...really like the Mt Bike guy blasting through the water. "Light is the Greatest Influence" Take care, Dave" That made my day!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
What are their images like? If your considering hiring a sports photographer look at their images. Do they have distracting backgrounds behind the subject or is it clean and nicely blurred out? Does the subject fill the majority of the frame or are they a dot in the middle of the picture? This alone will give you an idea to their skill level. Do they carry liability insurance? Accidents happen. Do they have back up cameras and gear? Modern cameras are complex machines and can and do go wrong, often at the worst moment. A professional photographer knows this and will have at least a back up camera so no matter what happens, they won't miss that shot.
