Introduction: Bonjour! I am a recent graduate of Lewis & Clark College, with a B.A. in French Studies. Through the College, I studied and worked in Strasbourg, France for four months, which was one of the best experiences of my life! I'm enthusiastic about the French language, love teaching it, and try to find the little tricks that help you master it. I have been a private French tutor for about three years now, working mainly with adults and teenagers. I can work with any language level -- introductory lessons, basic phrases, in-depth grammar, or simply conversation practice. We don't use textbooks, so our lessons are completely tailored to you and your French language goals. I'd prefer to meet in a coffee shop to work rather than one of my student's homes.

Courtney is exactly the tutor I was seeking. She is knowledgeable, professional, and an excellent teacher. She comes prepared with a plan, but adapts as questions arise. She is reliable and I highly recommend her! I feel lucky to have found her.

Courtney did a great job scaling the lesson to exactly what I'm looking for and started at a level that I was comfortable with. She never criticized my pronunciation but rather would give honest feedback. Highly recommended.

I am delighted with Courtney...could not ask for a better tutor ! She adapts well to my learning style, is very personable, and is sincere in her profession as a tutor. Some people have knowledge, but unable to teach. Courtney has both...intimate and detailed knowledge of the French language, and the ability to teach ! Very pleased with her !

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I normally charge $30 per hour for individual, private French lessons. For couples, that goes up to $45 per hour. Most people prefer to have one lesson per week. However, this pricing system is on somewhat of a sliding scale -- if my asking rate is more than what you're willing to pay (but you still really want to learn French!), ask me about compromising on a lower rate!

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Most of my students are adults who want to travel in France without feeling completely lost in the daily language, so we cover useful phrases and vocabulary for typical travel situations: restaurants, the bank, travel exchanges, etc. In college, I also tutored students who wanted a little extra support on the material they were learning in class, which was often more grammar- than vocabulary-heavy.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It's actually really fun. Speaking a different language is kind of like a secret superpower.
