FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $50/hr plus materials. One hour minimum within zip code 97222. Two hour minimum for surrounding areas. In some situations a flat cost for a project may make more sense.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to assess the work and be well prepared before arriving. I typically ask questions and ask for photos if possible in order to clarify the work, assess if I'm the right fit for your job, and let you know what I'm thinking. Once I take a look in person I like to give a couple options for how your repair/project can be addressed based on what's most important to you. Usually these are things such as cost, longevity, impact on indoor air quality, and desired aesthetics. I'll let you know if I see something else that's relevant, without any pressure.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
There are many carpenters and farmers in my family. I was fortunate enough to learn bits from them growing up. Mostly, I’ve been figuring out how to repair things as needed since I was a kid. I learned the most by studying structures and doing repairs and carpentry work on my own house, renovations before a sale, and for friends and family for a couple decades. I like the aspect of reducing waste when something can be repaired or renovated. I especially like helping to create healthier and enjoyable environments. For the past 20+ years I’ve also studied herbs, nutrition, and homeopathy. I’ve tended fruit trees and created herbal medicine, mushroom, and vegetable gardens.
