Welcome to the Milwaukie School of Guitar! We are a private music school located in downtown Milwaukie, Oregon. We offer private instruction in Guitar, Bass, Piano, Banjo, Ukulele, and Mandolin to students ages 5+. Lessons are available in person in the studio as well as online for most instruments. All of our instructors have 10+ years of experience and/or advanced degrees in music. Lessons are designed to be fun and engaging. I have been taking very consistent guitar lessons from Matt for going on roughly 5 years now, at least twice a month and usually 4 times a month. I fully credit almost everything I incorporate into my playing today to Matt. I use concepts he has taught me every single time I pick up the guitar, especially in any kind of live music environment. I truly believe he made guitar "click" for me and I really understand what is going on when I pick my guitar up. His enthusiasm really shows when teaching, he shows up with a plan, and conveys ideas well. Messaging him and asking for lessons back then was one of the best moves I have ever made in regards to my playing, and I am glad to still consider him a great friend and instructor after all this time!

After taking about a forty year leave from trying to play the guitar I was fortunate enough to find Matt. He is able to breakdown the instrument in such away that it’s fun to practice and play again. He’s very patient, encouraging, and really cares about his students progress they are making. Not only is he a great teacher but also a working musician, and author. He knows how to make his students comfortable which makes the learning process even better. Thanks Matt

I started my Ukulele training with Matt in September of 2018. I had never played a string instrument or Ukulele however was very interested in learning. Started working with Matt and Matt started with the very basics of the Ukulele. Matt is very knowledgeable in all areas of music, a great teacher & musician! Matt really listens to his students, goes at their pace and directs the lessons around what type of music they are interested in. He's always on time and has a fun and laid back personality. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are $30/ 30 minute lesson, or $50/60 minute lesson. Lessons are taken weekly and purchased by the calendar month.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Your first lesson will typically involve talking about your favorite music and your musical goals, learn some basics about your instrument and how to play some notes and/or chords. Many students can play a full song by the end of the first lesson!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All our instructors have 10+ Years experience teaching guitar and other instruments and/or advanced degrees in music.
