Nico was great! He is a true dog lover with lots of experience and knowledge about the fundamentals of training. He was able to give me advice and tips to continue training at home and what a difference he made for me and my dog Bubona!

Today was the first time I met Steve in my home. I feel very confident that he has the ability to help teach me to be the best dog owner I can be! I demonstrated my dog running off the porch and down the walkway with me while he was on a leash. I also shared a video of my dog biting at me while trying to get him inside. I'm looking forward to our training classes and am anxious to get started.

You look for someone who is going to treat your pet as if they were their own. From the moment she came to first meet our dog you could tell she wanted to make sure that we the owners could relax knowing our pet was in good hands as well as make sure our pet was as comfortable and looked after in our absence. Liz did that and more! Next time we are traveling you can bet we will be using Liz!!! She even sent us photos during her times with Copper while we were away. See attached.

Peggy was a great meet and greet, unfortunately, I did not have the pleasure to work with her directly, but seeing how caring she was towards my dog, made my heart melt. She is well trained on how to handle stressful situations involving pets, especially big fearful-aggressive dogs....... I would have hired her in a heart beat, but my rescue dog was not ready to meet new people. He has improved greatly, and he is now muzzled around everyone at all times. I would have hired Peggy, but I didnt want to put her or my dog in a bad situation.

I have an older dog, Madison, who needs to be let outside more than a younger dog. I really appreciated that Jordan didn't mind that, and was attentive to her needs. Jordan is very professional, caring & loving. After introducing her to Madison, I knew my dog would be in good hands. While I was away, I was equally grateful that she texted me photos of Madison at her home, with her. It allowed me to be able to relax, seeing that my dog was happy and having a great time. I can't say enough great things about Jordan's services. I feel her fees are very reasonable, and I am just so grateful to know that I have someone I can trust Madison with, who will love her & care for her as I would.

Christina and Tony are the best!! They care for your pet as if it was their own. Lots of love, belly rubs, walks, treats and everything else your furry friend needs while you're away, whether just at work or on vacation. The best part... you get pictures and texts of your pet so you know they're having fun while you're away. My dog LOVES them and goes crazy every time she sees them. What more can you ask for?! I highly recommend Woofs & Whiskers for all your pet care needs!!

Jen has been walking our two dogs (11 yrs and 2 yrs) for almost a year now, and we are so fortunate to have found her! She is extremely reliable, flexible, and responsive. She always sends me texts to let me know she's been to the house (and what the dogs did on their walk), and lets me know if anything seems off in their behavior/routines. She was also extremely helpful with advice about training/behavior issues with our new rescue pup. I work in Manhattan and have a long commute-- sometimes things come up last minute and Jen is always available to help if I need an extra visit. I have no reservations recommending her service.

We have 2 dogs, one of whom is very difficult to work with. I didn’t think the dog would let someone unknown ever come into the house. Jacques has been great. He responded immediately and came to meet the dogs the next day. It was clear he had the experience he had the experience we needed. He is just wonderful. Just one week out and all is going so well. 5 stars to Jacques.

Linda was an amazing pet sitter for my dog. She took great care with him. She even sat with him till he became more at ease with her. Linda went above and beyond all expectations. I highly recommend Linda for any pet sitting. And I look forward to using her again when vacation calls.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
