I can't say enough about how pleased we were with Dave and his staff. We had contracted with Dave to install hardwood floors in our family and living rooms. Dave was helpful and responsive to my questions the whole time I was shopping around for wood. Once I found the wood I wanted, he made a commitment to have our floors done within the time frame that we had requested, which was a very tight window of time. His installers worked diligently to complete the job and our hardwood was installed and everything back in order within the time frame we requested. During the install, he stopped by and checked in to ensure everything was okay as well as he stopped by after the project was complete. Dave has a great personality and it was easy to work with him. He is honest and reasonably priced as we had interviewed a few other installers and his quote came in about the same or lower than any of the others. While his price was lower, the service and quality of work was top notch! I will defiantly have Dave and his crew back for more home repairs in the future!

I am so happy I hired Damian. I just recently moved and I have a long list of items that I need completed. I hired Damian because he is knowledgeable about everything from plumbing, to electrical, to hanging TVs, he's very professional, and I felt I could trust him the moment I met him. I recommended him to my sister who has hired him to remodel her kitchen and bathroom. She felt the same way I did, that you could really trust Damian and he will give you an honest answer to your questions. Damian knows his stuff and I would definitely recommend him!! I look forward to hiring Damian for many future projects!!!

We hired Jeff to install some kitchen cabinets and build a deck under them, then trim them out. Jeff is punctual, reasonably priced, neat, personable and a real craftsman- every quality you could want in a contractor or Handyman! I am very particular and OCD, he worked with me every step of the way and really helped my vision come to fruition. Not to mention, he was wonderful with my 3 very young children and respectful of my home (taking shoes off etc). We are having Jeff back for a full bathroom remodel and cannot wait to work with him again, would highly recommend.

Eric installed our kitchen cabinets, 14 in all. He also installed our microwave and crown moulding. Eric is a stickler for detail. He was always asking for my input on how I wanted doors to open ect. Our kitchen looks incredible, I would highly recommend anyone to hire Eric. I know if I need more work done in the future, Eric is my guy.

We recently gutted our kitchen and replaced everything. I turned to Thumbtack once again looking for a contractor to tear out our old floor and install new LVP flooring as well as tile backsplash. I got 2 repspones form Thumbtack and my wife got 2 from Facebook. Out of the 4, 3 cancelled the day they were to come and look at the job and give us estimates (one guy 10 minutes before he was supposed to be here). Only Andrew from Wick's Helping Hands showed up when he said he would (10 min early actually ). He was very professional and got me a written estimate within a few days. We did end up getting another estimate from a contractor who had canceled on us originally. Both estimates were very similar, but Andrew was by far the more professional and thorough!! In the end we could not have been happier with our decision the hire Andrew from Wick's Helping Hands. The work he did was top notch and he showed up on time each day he was scheduled to work at our home. It took him 4 days to complete the work streched out over 3 different phases. Each time he left our home very clean and removed all his contruction trash. I do alot of work around my home myself and I am very picky , I can honestly say Andrew's work met all my expectations! I would not hesitate to hire Andrew again and I would reccomend him to anyone looking for remodeling contractors!

We had a total redo of the bathroom and kitchen, in addition we had some outside work done. It seemed no job was too big or to small. Rooms look great and functional. There were times when the techs were thinking about things like what side should the cabinet door open from and readjusting it from it original position to accommodate our kitchen set up. Extra care was given to details and any time something needed it they were able to handle it in a timely fashion with quality work being the result. Suzanne

I was extremely pleased with the quality, service and attention to detail they deliver. I was so pleased after my kitchen floor tile was installed I immediately scheduled my tile backsplash installation. They were very prompt in responding to my request for a quote, offered pictures, and gave sound advice to assist us with determining which tile and grout would work best for our needs. They offer fair prices for top notch work. They were very respectful of my time and were on the job at the exact hour they stated. They completed the work on the time line given without any delays or extensions. I will continue to recommend C.E. Witmer to all my family and friends. As we work on the other upgrades to our home we will be using C.E. Witmer for all our tile and marble remodeling.

Quality Floors did our kitchen backsplash, and they were excellent to deal with. They were responsive when we called, and went above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied with the job. I work for a company that values customer satisfaction above all else, and so I know what it takes to follow that mission on a daily basis, with every customer. Quality Floors is a company you can trust to stick with the job until you are satisfied.

George designed and built the cabinets in our recently purchased 1920's row-home as well as two bathroom vanities. This home was purchased for a floor to ceiling renovation. The kitchen, due to George's design and gorgeous cabinets, is truly the showpiece of our home. Simply put, the kitchen is stunning! The quality of the cabinets is top notch with every detail customized. He worked with us to design kitchen cabinetry that met every wish and expectation. He gave us amazing ideas to improve our rough vision. He was very easy to work with, responsive, friendly and patient with us as we often took too long to make decisions. His work was often completed ahead of schedule and he worked without needing a great deal from us (which we found common with many other parts of our renovation project). Because his work on the kitchen was so wonderful we asked him to design and build bathroom vanities for our two full bathrooms. His ideas and final designs for the vanities was classic but unique. After moving in to our home we decided that it was a no-brainer who would design and build our walk-in closet for our master suite. We are currently working on that project with George. We could not be more pleased with George's ideas, designs, final product and easy to work with personality. Oh, and concerning the uncomfortable topic of price, you will find that George delivers a much better product for the price than any distributor of cabinets. Don't waste your time with online or store front retailers if you care about style and quality. Enough said.

Kevin did an amazing job with my home. I originally hired him to tile my shower. He did such great work, I asked him to do my backsplash in my kitchen too. He did everything in a timely manner while maintaining outstanding work. If we came to any bumps in the road, he came to me and we worked it out. He was great to work with. When I'm ready for my floors to be done, he will be the first one I call!

Kevin at Maxson Remodel is excellent, very professional and easy to work with. We had the following done: Kitchen: ceramic tile dishwasher and fridge installed painted Living Room: glass tile above the fireplace in the living room curtains installed painted He has some great ideas, so we actually let him pick the ceramic and glass tile, curtains and paint colors. He helped us pick the appliances and new furniture in the living room. He has a great eye for interior design and we love the way the paint and tile in the rooms came together. His prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
