Mr. Davis came out right away to give me an estimate. He was able to replace a wooden screen door to my porch and repair trim to the peak of my home two days later as promised. He arrived on time and completed the work as we had discussed. I was pleased with his attention to detail. His price was fair. I would call him again for other projects around my house.

I am a Realtor and an investment property owner...I have used Marvus 3 times in the past year..Once he replaced several spokes on a porch railing , and garage trim both had rotted out and I was putting the house on the market. The second time was to replace windows in one of my apartments and the third time was to replace doors and Windows in my personaLresidence...Each time he did an excellent job , cleaned up nicely and did the jobs quickly. His prices were very competitive in fact he was the lowest bidder in each case...Will use him again in the future... Super good Guy too!

The contractors arrived on time everyday. They kept me informed of the plan and progress and when more extensive damage was discovered, they explained what would need to be done and estimated costs quickly. I was actually on site when the extensive damage was discovered, but I also reduced a call from Mark with pictures to show what needed to be addressed. He was also ready with an estimate of the additional work. Even texting June late in the evening after the workers left received and immediate reply. I have full confidence that my project was done well and correctly. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and willingness to explain each step of the process. When they left, they cleaned up after themselves completely and it looked like no one had ever been there (except for the beautiful siding and windows). We will definitely be hiring William Penn Renovation again for future projects.

There was a complete remodel of 2 room add on of my house. Everything was done in a timely fashion, organized and area kept relatively clean. They removed drywall and replaced anything that needed it. Outside they put insulation, vinyl siding and replaced metal roofing. The also removed rear rotted 2 level porch and roof and rebuilt it into a 2 level porch with steps to upper level and to bottom yard with stone area to walk on to. They also cemented and patterned the stone and cement walls. They are knowledgeable in construction, are licensed and insured and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for good work at a good price.

GO TIME completed several tasks on our home in Harrisburg required by the home inspection in order for us to sell it, including painting all the exterior wood and re-building our back porch that had a lot of rotten wood. Overall we were pleased with the work and their flexibility in working within our time urgency.

I panned three projects for our home - hand rail for 3 steps from porch to walkway, approx 100 ft hand rail along walk way, & hand rail from 2nd to first floor. Based on the professional and quality job on job one, I contracted for the longer hand rail. Again they did an excellent job with the fabrication & installation - doing exactly what they contracted to do. The installation crew did the installation job efficiently & were very courteous. I was very impressed with the quality & professionalism and consequently contracted for them to do the interior hand rail. I would not hesitate recommending Cregger Construction to anyone who needs metal work

Paul helped me get my house ready for sale. It sold with in a week. What he did: Painted inside and out. Finished laying a floor that was started. Repaired a porch roof. Removed extra furniture to make it appear bigger. Helped with some outside touches. All this was don't quickly, neatly and the way I requested.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

        Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
