took up the challange of using a universal metal bracket to replace plastic brackets that came with the house. and did a good job figuring out how to do them. He was not fully prepared as he did not havew a band saw or bilt cutters on him, but we used larger bolts .

Scope: Remove a broken 200lb through-wall Air Conditioner, remove the old sleeve and install a new sleeve & smaller unit. I provided photos and manufacturer instructions in advance. At $90/hr (which is the high end for a handyman), I expected expert-level speed and a clean finish—someone who could work through challenges quickly. Instead, the job took 5 hours, I was helping him the whole time and while the unit works, the foam/caulk is messy and I’ll need to remove the new unit to re-do some incorrectly installed parts and finish the trim myself (I had him leave at 5 hours but it should have been finished long before). The instructions included with the unit were tricky, but at this rate I expected more experience, more efficiency and a more polished result. $450 to install an Air Conditioner.
