Your Love Story On Film
What do you love about your job?
My job is amazing! I have been given the gift to capture those quickly fleeting moments that pass by way too quickly, whether it be a wedding or a growing family. Most of all, my job is about people. It is about telling their story and helping them show their true selves when in front of a camera. It is about helping people see their true beauty. To hear a teenage girl say to me, "Thank you for making me beautiful," melts my heart knowing I have just helped her see what others see in her. I love when a bride tells me she hired me as a professional, but now she has a friend coming to celebrate with her at her wedding. I love it when a child asks me to come play with her again as we finish up a shoot in the heat of summer. What more could I ask for in a job? It is rewarding, it is beautiful, and I know I am giving gifts of memories that will last for generations to come!
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
I never wanted to start my own business. I never even thought of becoming a photographer. I wanted a nice camera to capture my growing family. I wanted to learn how to use the camera the right way because I am a perfectionist, and having all those extra buttons and not using them drove me nuts! So I learned and studied and grew, and people began asking me to take their pictures. I refused, but with enough pushing, I finally gave in to one shoot. Here I am now. I have pursued little and yet, I have done magazine covers, won awards, been published many times, but most importantly, I have met the most amazing people!
Describe your most memorable project.
I have done some incredible projects. I have worked for Georgetown, and the pamphlet I photographed won the Platinum Marcom Award. I did a joint project with Mercedes and an engineering firm. I have met some amazing people, but my most memorable project was doing a family photo session. It was for a grandfather and his grandchildren. I knew the shoot would be hard for me. He had terminal cancer. He has since passed, but knowing I could stop time, even if for a short moment, was such a tremendous blessing! I know those pictures are cherished and loved, and the memory of their grandfather will forever be with them.
