I contacted several companies regarding refurbishing my home pool table. My wife and I narrowed our search down to two companies. I mention this because, once Roy Kay from TableTek and I got to talking, I was sold, I knew who and what company I want to do this important work. Now the let fun begin (smiling), it was time to decide the table cloth and new pockets. Roy was friendly, patient, professional and helpful. I had tons of questions and he took his time to answer each of them as if I were his only customer. That further impressed me. To make a long story short, I picked my cloth/color and new pockets, Roy setup the date and time that his team would be at our home and we were off to the races. Eddie showed up Monday morning to our Southern New Jersey home a little late, but it was totally understandable, we were experiencing very heavy rainfall from the Pennsylvania to New Jersey area. Eddie and his partner (Im sorry, I forgot his name) came in and went directly to work. This was Monday. The guys disassembled my table removing my cushions to take back with them for the repairs. Tuesday was a shop day, ordering of the cloth and pockets etc. I asked Roy to have his technician(s) arrive at 8am Wednesday morning to complete the job so that I could be out of the house by 10am, he replied "no problem". Today is Wednesday, the big reveal. Well Tim should up at 7:45 am, introduced himself and went immediately to work. I had to interrupt him to ask him to move his van out of the driveway so my wife could back out of the garage. He stopped what he was doing, and moved his van. My wife pulled out and he pulled back up and went back inside and immediately back to work. Fast forward......at 9:50am I went downstairs to check in with Tim, he began smiling and said, "I was about to come upstairs to get you. Honestly, I wasn't paying him any attention because I was starring and smiling at my 8ft pool table, all I could say was WOW! It looked awesome. I forgot what good cushion felt like when playing on my table LOL. Man what a difference. Tim cleaned up, packed his tools up and wished me a good day. If you're in need of pool table repair I highly recommend PoolTek. Roy Kay is running a great shop and everyone should experience what I'm experiencing (smiling). Roy was reasonable, his team were punctual, friendly, helpful & professional, and the workmanship of his technicians was great! The bonus I must mention and was equally as importantly......it only took 3 days (1 day in shop, 2 days in home), not a week or more as other companies were quoting! Thank you PookTek, money well spent!! I'm having trouble uploading the before and after pictures. I will get them up.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to restore a pool table?

Keeping your pool table in prime condition both protects your investment and makes it more fun to play. If your billiards table has been damaged by age or player misuse, experienced pool table repair pros are ready to help. The average national cost to hire a pool table specialist is $330-$400, but pricing can vary depending on how much restoration work needs to be done and the type and cost of materials you need. Depending on the type of pool table you want, the cost to buy one new can range from $1,000 to $5,000 and up, so investing in upkeep every few years makes good financial sense. Common pool table repairs include refelting the table, replacing cushions and cushion rubber that is has deteriorated or been damaged, installing new pockets or replacing damaged pockets, and fixing chips or smoothing uneven slate. You can also have wood pool tables refinished to restore them to their former luster, which may start around $600 and go up, depending on size, wood type and necessary repairs. Pool table repair pros can level an uneven table, repair broken leg mounts and address other foundational issues. Pool table repair pros can also fix coin-operated parts for commercial tables.

How much does it cost to replace pool table felt?

Owning a pool table, whether for pleasure or business, means investing in upkeep. Keeping the felt in good condition is important to ensure not only appearance but a smooth game. The national average cost to hire a pool table repair professional ranges from $330 to $400. A quality pool table is a major investment, so you want to hire a pro who is experienced and comes with glowing references. Refelting a pool table is a specialized skill calling for technical tools, competence with slate smoothing and repair, and the ability to provide a precision application of the felt that won’t hinder play.

When well cared for, pool table felt can last up to a decade; pros recommend replacing your pool table felt every three years or so, more often if you play heavily. Refelting and pool table repairs can cost more for antique and custom pool tables. Commercial pool table owners are wise to have multiple pool tables repaired at one time, as they can often get discounts for volume work.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
