Deedee was great! Unfortunately we were unable to conquer the dog chasing cat problem in our first 2 sessions but that may have had more to do with our cat being unresponsive to interacting with our dog. For the last 2 sessions, we worked on manners outside and we have had significant improvements in leash manners and people manners! Deedee gave us the tools necessary to continue working with our dog to continue to improve. Also, scooby doos house of play has a wide variety of options from train and board to personal lessons that we will utilize in the future to continue to conquer our puppy problems :) our dog was an 6 year old rescue so she can obviously help train out bad behaviors in older dogs too! Would go back if we ever decide to get another dog with behavioral issues. Thanks Deedee!

Absolutely love Shari's pet sitting services. I love being able to leave my cat at home while on vacation without worrying about her or my home. She takes care of the pets, water plants, brings in mail, adjusts the lighting, and takes out the trash for a price cheaper than boarding your pet at the veterinarian! I also love that she sends daily pictures and messages from my pets so that I know they are doing well while I am away. Thanks Shari.

Ellie is great with my Shar pei Chewie. Chewie is a very nervous dog and She trusts Ellie. She loves walking with Ellie. One night I was in the hospital about to be admitted and I called Ellie to get her to pick up Chew at 1130pm at night and she went and picked her up and watched her for me while some tests were being done. I trust Ellie in my apartment with my things and moreover and importantly I trust her with Chewie. Chewie was abused I think by the way she cowers when she occasionally had an accident and hides. She does not trust everyone and she trusted Ellie almost instantly which is a very rare thing for Chew. I don't think Chew trusted me when I get her as a rescue in November for almost a week. Ellie is awesome!!! Oh I also called Ellie the very day that she emailed me and I told her I needed her tomorrow. Ellie met her and came to the house that day. Ellie is the best pet walker and sitter!!

Diana checked on my cat daily for about a week while I was vacation. He can be moody while I'm gone and has been known to scratch a friend that watches him. Diana didn't report any behavior issues, and he did not seem as stressed when I came home as he has in the past. I suspect it was the consistency of her visits that helped. Everyday at roughly the same time. Or she's just the cat whisperer! Either way it's nice knowing that I can call her in when I go out of town and I can pay her a reasonable fee rather than imposing on friends for favors.

I hired Erin to watch my 2 dogs and cat a few months prior to my March vacation. Unfortunately, during that time my senior dog got sick. Erin and I communicated the whole time as I got diagnosis. Erin was prepared and experienced with caring for a diabetic dog. This made me feel comfortable hiring her. Sadly my senior dog got very sick and I had to euthanize her. During that time, prior to my vacation I cannot begin to explain how understanding and gracious Erin was. I went on vacation and Erin made it so easy. She put me at ease with updates daily and was very communicative. I will hire her again because I feel comfortable that I have hired a trustworthy pet loving person.

My kitty loves Aimee. She is the first cat sitter that my kitty Jermie has allowed to pick him up besides me. Aimee is always on time and her communication is on point. I don't ever have to worry about Jermie being cared for or my home not being like I left it.

I had used Thumbtack to reach out to potential dog walkers because I was having issues with my previous hires. (not through Thumbtack) I had completed the Thumbtack form looking for service last Wednesday evening and by Thursday morning Elizabeth had reached out to me with a very decent quote for dog walking. Needless to say with her professional attitude, dog walking skills and incredible politeness, she was hired immediately. She has been my dog walker for a week now and I have not regretted it one bit! One thing I learned about her company is that she is available for any of your household needs. I can assure you I will be contacting Rent a Housewife for many of my household needs! VERY satisfied! HIGHLY recommended!! Thank you Elizabeth!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

Three dogs; 2 mini schnauzers and 1 shitz-poo. All are friendly. Oldest schnauzer (male) about 11 yrs old not too playful anymore, just slowing down. The other two dogs are full of energy and enjoy human interaction and play-time. All are well behaved and for the most part do not stray from the yard....if they do a firm voice command is all that is needed to recall them.
