I take a personal interest in each student and where they are in their process and guarantee that they grow from the first lesson. I am also a professional singer and playwright. I am developing a Broadway-bound musical different from any other. The acting is straight acting for the stage based on the Stanislavsky method, similar to tv and film. I enjoyed my time in Professor Coates class. The way that she taught us script analysis was really informative with creating brackets with a thought, then finding the operative word and if there is a helper word, finding that too. That is important because as actors, we need to hit our marks, and doing script analysis this way, it is impossible to miss the marks. I enjoyed the time we had to determine our given circumstances with our characters. This is great because the better we know our characters and all of the circumstances with them, the more authentic our performance can be. Lastly, I enjoyed her lesson on landscaping, seeing our partner and objects that we describe in our monologues and scene. Whether or not you are taking this class to grow as an actor like I was or using a free elective, you will be more knowledgeable about the craft after taking Professor Coates Experiencing Acting II class!

Macha Coates’s Experiencing Acting II class is a combination of hard work and pure bliss. Every time you meet for class, you dive deep into the world of theater and acting while also connecting with like minded people who help shape your experience. Throughout the course, you will be expected to keep up with weekly blogs, find your own scenes and monologues, rehearse in and outside of class, do character work, perform in front of your peers, and review two plays of your choice. It may sound like a lot of work but in the end it is so rewarding. In total you will present two contrasting monologues and one five minute scene. There will also be plenty of extra credit opportunities if needed! Macha creates an environment that develops and hones your acting skills so you will be ready to professionally audition by the end of the course!
