Fred M. says, "I recently had our kitchen cabinets refinished. Scheduling online was very easy with a person named Pablo but when it came to the day the work began, there was some communication issues which quickly got cleared up with the manager, Sean. I ended up going with this company because I was told the process would take just one day without the cabinet doors being removed, but the realistic process was two days, which was accommodated by the work being done on a Sunday because I was on a tight timeframe. The person who came to do the work was really meticulous, ensuring the prep work was properly done and took his time to ensured the cabinets were well covered. The outcome speaks for itself after opting for new countertops and appliances, the kitchen looks brand new. I was unaware that since the cabinets were oak having deep grooves, some of the grain would come through but using a satin finish limited the amount. A fan was used to push the paint and sand dust out but upon completion of the project, the entire condo was full of dust and needed a deep clean. Overall, I’m happy with the outcome and would recommend using this company for a budget overhaul of your kitchen."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

A professional cabinet painter knows exactly what to do to give your cabinets long-lasting color and appeal. Other painters may also specialize in cabinet painting. You can find a highly rated, professional cabinet painter near you by searching online. Look at their online reviews and ratings from customers, as well as photos of recently painted cabinets that showcase the pro’s work.

The average cost to have your kitchen cabinets painted by a professional ranges from $1,200 to $7,000. However, the layout of your cabinets can affect the complexity of the job and increase the cost. Your costs might also vary depending on how many kitchen cabinets need to be painted. And, some cabinet painters may charge extra if they have to remove the doors to paint them.

Contact a few cabinet painters in your area to get a better idea of how much it will cost to paint your kitchen cabinets. Also, read the cost guide for kitchen cabinet painting to learn more about how prices are determined.

The most durable type of paint for kitchen cabinets is anything that’s smooth and easy to clean. It’s often recommended that you choose semi-gloss, gloss or satin finishes as opposed to matte finishes. Matte finishes have a non-uniform surface, which not only attracts dust and grease, but also makes it more vulnerable to damage during wipe downs.

Don’t hesitate to ask a top-rated cabinet painter for their advice as you’re planning your project.

This depends on your project. Although painting kitchen cabinets is usually significantly cheaper than replacing them, it’s important to look at long-term costs vs. benefits. If your cabinets are damaged from water leaks, mold or warping and can no longer open or close properly, painting them is probably not the best option. You may spend less, but if you have to replace them in the next few years, you will wind up paying far more for having painted them.
