Hired yam construction to replace a door on a rental unit I manage remotely. Hired to install trim/moulding around door frames and @ baseboards as well as hanging 7 interior doors (slab & frame). Good: -Work was completed in a good quality manner -Had tools to complete the work -Knowledge to complete job -Most of the cuts for door and trim were good but I do have to sand down the doors so the jagged edges are less noticeable Bad: -Many of the baseboards were installed with the rough side exposed which means I’ll have to pay another person apply a compound and finish before paint can be applied which now adds to the jobs costs. -Nail holes not filled throughout which means I as the customer have to go around the entire house to complete Ugly: -Agreed to complete job in 3 days (Saturday-Monday) but job wasn’t complete until Friday! I can do most of this week and have experience renovating houses but I hired someone to focus on work and had to spend an entire week at the property and not able to do any work. In hindsight it would’ve been quicker for me to do the work myself with 1 helper: cheaper too. -No desire to control dust! Ramboard, 2&3 mil plastic was onsite for preparing floors/walls/rooms to control dust and requested their use so my new hardwood floors don’t get damaged. I had to put some down after repeated requests weren’t being addressed by Yusuf. Generally when a customer tells the boss to have his workers protect their house the response is, “I’m sorry, I’ll address it and it won’t happen again.” -Never got that or a single apology from Yusuf. -Clean-up: Never thought I’d have to clean up someone else’s work but it became routine after lackluster sweeping or none at all. Again repeated requests to clean up and cut materials outside, in the back yard or basement turned into cutting materials all over my house! They saw my plumber start a job Wednesday re-routing my 1st floor bathroom and rough-in plumbing for a new 3rd floor master bedroom and complete their job efficiently while prepping floors and cleaning up. What bothered me most was the plumbing cleaned the 1st floor bathroom with bleach before working then again when the work was complete so they’d have a clean workspace when the returned the next day for inspection. Yusuf guys went and cut in the bathroom and left dust everywhere leaving me to clean that day until 1am. Did not chop all of the wood to fit into contractor bags as requested which left me, the customer doing their job so it could be taken with regular trash pick up. -No awareness for job safety: Open blades left around, wouldn’t hammer down nails on removed old trim and left them outside where my neighbors, my toddler or I could step on. -Failure to provide license: Before, during, and after job it was agreed that no final payment would be rendered until license and insurance were provided. After completion there was a lot of arguing about why I need something that was agreed upon and that they’re not contractors but handyman, etc etc etc. Honestly didn’t see that coming and will use as a lesson learned before having anyone else step foot into my home since I only use licensed contractors for significant jobs-which this was and for which the state of PA and city of Philadelphia require licensure for. Additionally, I paid market price for a contractor and NOT a handyman price which would’ve been half of what they were paid.

Mr harry Mims was the worst job me and my guys has ever done he knew that we were a new company and he took full advantage. first when we got in his property he seemed very professional then all of that changed. He didn't ask for any paper work because he hired us as handy men, but I told him that I have insurance, EIN, account number with Philadelphia , OSHA #. We gave him a dead line of three days ; he made us fail our dead line, everytime we went to put baseboard down. He would come and put claulk in the spot so it would off level our baseboard he would say oh im trying to keep the spiders and roaches down. so we ran out of board and told him because he was the one who grabbed all materials so he said can we use the word outside my guys said yes but they would have to flip the boards he gave the go a head and they also told him that it would less primer, the only difference between the front and the back was less primer and he said okay. so now at end of project we asked was everything good ? he said yes as we did a walk through then he didn't want to pay us, tell him to post pictures before and after we do very good work. the job was suppose to be simple, but he made the job harder by giving us extra work and putting stuff in our way this was a job from horror, because he was a realitor he figured he could do our jobs as well and said he could do it but he didn't have the time but was in our way the whole time

Unfortunately I have to say I sincerely regret hiring this person to replace my front door. The door installation was never completed. The framing was completely incorrect, the door was not leveled. He damaged my interior walls and did a terrible job speckling it back together. That is without counting the fact that the house was completely filthy after with dust. At the end, the door wasnt truly in, it was basically sitting there and loose. The wrong kind of screws were used and he even put them onto new holes instead of using the pre drilled ones that come with the door frame. Originally he was supposed to do it in one day but did not finish. I could not take off another day of work and we agreed he would do it alone and send me pictures. He sent me pictures as if he completed. Luckily I found it weird that the pictures did not show the entire door and went to check myself before paying. Needless to say, it was not done. I ended up having to get someone else who had to take the door out and completely redo it. He also damaged the door and broke some of the brick around it. He said he would fix these but didnt. So I also had to pay to get the door patched as well as fixing the brick.

Dishonest, mistake-laden, irresponsible, costly “handyman.” Dishonest: -Claimed he’d provide license and insurance before hiring. Turns out he didn’t have an maybe got later but replied to my review for the door install work he did claiming I didn’t ask for his documentation and that I that homeowner was trying to take advantage of him-bizarre! -Gave me his “word” 3-4 times claiming he’d finish the job only to have to come back another day since his guys were bought to the job site late in the day instead of 1st thing in the morning as promised causing me to have to take off a week of work as these guys can’t be in your home without you present. -Lies about everything...states I never had any issues about the job and everything was rosy in his reply so I posted some of my feedback to demonstrate what you can expect from Yusuf Mitchell and his guys. -I gave the man 2 stars being nice then got a bunch of unprofessional messages from the guy when he should’ve been happy I didn’t give him only 1 STAR like all of his VERIFIED reviewers. DO NOT BELIEVE the reviewers that aren’t verified as I did!!! -Will blame YOU for all of his faults!! Irresponsible: -Will damage your property and never change the behavior or instruct his crew to do BASIC prep work. -Shows up whenever he wants. -Leaves nails and sharp objects everywhere. -Cannot accept a feedback he doesn’t like. Mistake-laden: -Forgot to install trim in some areas. -Installed the mouldings using the rough side instead of the finished side then responded to my criticism stating I wanted him to do that lol. So I paid you $3000 (should’ve been $1500 since he’s not a contractor) and $3000 for materials to be installed incorrectly... -Scratches all over my new floors, caulk everywhere is shouldn’t be and doesn’t clean up well and sometimes not at all. -3 our of 7 doors installed can’t open all the way. Costly: -Had to hire a cleaner @ $300 to deep clean since his crew cut wood inside of my house getting dust everywhere and on everything when they were supposed to cut outside or in the basement. -Had to hire someone to fill all of the nail holes from installing trim since they failed to and to caulk everywhere they missed or where they mistakenly applied clear caulk instead of white caulk. -Underestimated their trim costs by half! -Had to cancel a weeks worth of appointments and business since they turned their 3 day timeline into a week! I told Yusuf that I wouldn’t post anything embarrassing and there’s a lot considering my security cameras captured some “weird” things and would just give a review of my experience which seems to mirror the experiences of his other contractors. At some point he’ll stop making excuses and improve OR get a new line of work. Everyone can’t be wrong...
