When approaching an instrument, each student learns in their own way. My style of teaching is based around individual personalities and goals to achieve the fastest possible development, and ensuring that the activities of the lesson include enough fun to keep ongoing lessons interesting. I enjoy watching the improvement in my students' technique and skill in creating music. There is a certain passion that teaching brings out in me, which makes me look forward to each lesson.

Astrik is without doubt the best piano teacher my children have ever had. We have usually had lessons with teachers provided by schools. My older daughter (11) could read music and play but really had never worked well on timing on volume and was not being stretched. My younger daughter (8) had trouble learning notes and instead memorized them. Within two lessons Astrik was working on both issues. She taught my younger daughter from a book that told stories about the placement of the notes and used color to reinforce until she had them. Now piano has gone from something I have to force them to do to something they like. I can't believe the difference. Also if you have heard Astrik play you can see why she is an inspirational example.

Astrik is an excellent piano teacher for both children and adults, as well as for both beginners and more advanced students. She is warm and patient while requiring that her students achieve mastery and musical comprehension of their repertoire. She is adept at selecting and offering pieces that cover all aspects of musical fluency.

I have had the pleasure of working with Astrik as my piano instructor and coach. I played the piano for a long time before starting graduate school. After my practice had lapsed for more than a decade, I decided to get back, regain and refine my technique, and improve certain things that weren't as good as I wanted them to be. Astrik patiently works with me and recommends pieces and exercises that would help me improve my technique. I admire Astrik's open minded approach to music making as she is eager to hear my opinion and interpretation of the music I am working on. Then, together we try different approaches, discuss them, and decide how to move forward. This way, music evolves from one session to the other, it matures, and it becomes a refined and meaningful piece of work in the end. She is a knowledgeable musician, an avid pianist, a patient teacher, and a courteous and wonderful person.
