Emily did an excellent job on my wedding makeup and my bridal party's makeup as well. I had tried out several other makeup artists, and I found that everyone else overdid it, and I looked too made up. I didn't look like myself. When Emily did her trial run, I was more than pleased with the results. The result was not only natural, her makeup made me look better than myself. The result was me enhanced! She made me look flawless, and my wedding pictures are proof of that! My bridesmaids makeup looked just as flawless and beautiful, too! I highly recommend Emily if you need a professional makeup artist for a special occasion like a wedding, homecoming or a prom! She was prompt, professional, and goes above and beyond!

I am the owner of Kim Ifft Photography. I had the opportunity to work with Danina on a Boudoir Photo Shoot I did. My client came to the shoot with Danina, her makeup artist, and I have to tell you, I was blown away! Danina was amazing, she did an fantastic job with my client. She looked at the scenes as well as the outfits, and she made a great game plan of the makeup she would use and change throughout our shoot. We had a swimming pool scene, as well as outdoor scenes, the lighting was different for each, and she adapted to what my client needed as well as what I needed. As a photographer, I often work with makeup artists, I have seen all levels of makeup artists, and I must say, Danina ranks at the top of my list. I would hire her in an instant for any personal, as well as professional event I shoot.......

I had a pretty specific look in mind for my event, and the final product reflected that very well--Katie was very attentive to detail. She also considered my skin type (combination) before using products on my face. Overall, the application was flawless and long-lasting-- I only had to touch up twice with oil blotting sheets in the entire night! Also, the price is extremely reasonable. She doesn't even charge for false lashes. For $40, and the quality and attentiveness Katie offers, I'd recommend her over the makeup artists in the Ulta/Sephora/MAC stores.

She has done multiple highlight sessions, multiple hairstyles and makeup for date nights for me. All have came out perfect, have been going to her for over a year now and I refuse to go anywhere else. Absolutely amazing in all her work and lovely person. Even the experience in the place was great. Very calm upbeat vibe. Also gave great tips on easy hairstyle and how to do things with my hair and makeup on a regular basis. Also gave me a lesson on some hairstyles that I wanted to learn how to do. She is just an amazing person and stylist.

I can't say enough good things about Hope! We did a practice session before the wedding and I knew she would make me look like the beautiful bride I had always dreamed of being. She really listened to what I liked and my makeup was perfect. We had pictures done several hours before the wedding and she even waited to touch up my makeup before the ceremony. I got so many compliments on my eyes. If you're looking for a makeup artist for your wedding, there is no one better than her!

Erin was absolutely WONDERFUL to work with. She is so friendly, professional and a very skilled makeup artist. Erin also has extremely fair pricing for her work and does not overcharge like some other artists I had searched did. She really listened to me and gave me exactly the look I wanted for my wedding day. The trial day with her was great - we did some trial and error on a few things and she made every change I asked for and was SO willing to work with me and make sure I felt as beautiful as possible for my wedding day. She also did makeup for my bridesmaids and mother in law, and the girls got SO many compliments on how gorgeous their makeup was. For the wedding day, Erin was on time, professional and organized - she was great to work with and really knows how to work well amidst the craziness that can be the morning of your big day. She also has VERY high quality products and used the best of the best on me for my wedding day. My makeup was gorgeous and lasted all day - for an August 27th wedding when it was 90+ degrees (2pm wedding) - my face NEVER came off until I took it off myself at the end of the night! It looked gorgeous for photos and she used all the right products and perfect amounts of everything to ensure my face would be flawless for my pictures with no lighting kickback. I cannot recommend her enough! I am SO glad I trusted her for my wedding day -she helped to make me feel and look my best for the day, which is exactly what I wanted. She is such a sweetheart and wonderful to work with - I really can't say enough good things about her!

I have worked with Adrienne several times over the past few years and love her work. She makes my models look flawless. I've had her do everything from soft, natural looking makeup to bold makeup for fashion shots. She can make anyone look beautiful, and no matter what the look is, she nails it. I recommend her to all my brides who are looking for a great makeup artist, and insist on using her for all my model shoots. She is a true artist and her work enhances my pieces so much. She is also incredibly professional and fun to work with.

Shannon was outstanding to work with. She was friendly and professional and arrived early. She listened to what I what I wanted and she asked relevant questions. She made me look and feel beautiful but still like myself. She also did a great job (totally age appropriate) with makeup for my 9 year old stepdaughter. I was on the fence about hiring a makeup artist for my wedding but I'm so glad I did. I can't say enough about how wonderful she is! I would absolutely hire her again!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
