Absolutely outstanding. Our gardener of 15 years had to pack it in; after 1-2 false starts, we found Paslow; truly a gem.

Jamie cleaned up my front yard garden. Weeding, cutting back bushes, mulching, ect. It looks wonderful. Jamie also cut my back lawn and got rid of a forest of weeds growing along the side of the house. I'd definitely hire her again.

Linda helped me view my yard as more than just grass. I consulted with her about my plans for a garden, and her knowledge of edible plants and organic practices astounded me. She also asked a lot of questions about my lifestyle (what I like to eat, how much time do I want to actually spend maintaining the garden, etc), and I appreciated her care in designing a garden tailored to me. Later in the season some of my veggies were experiencing a blight. Overwhelmed with trying to figure out the problem online, I sent Linda a couple photos and she helped me diagnose the problem and offered solutions. I really appreciated that she was there to help long after the official consultation was over. Using Linda's services saved me time, money and a whole lot of guess work. Linda is hard working and knowledgeable, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her for your gardening needs.

I asked to have weeding and some bush trimming done. I discovered the difference between landscaping and gardening. The Clean Air man, Dave, was very nice and willing to work but he didn't know weeds from garden plants. There were no disasters but I couldn't tell him to "weed the flowerbed"..had to point out the weeds. It just wasn't his area of expertise.

About

I am not your typical landscape company that mostly cuts grass. I work alone or with another person, and I will look at your landscape, talk about what you are looking to do to improve the beauty of your landscape, and start by making suggestions. I specialize in the design and installation of gardens using mostly perennial flowers, ground covers, ferns, and ornamental grasses. I do all my work by hand with no machinery and all my gardens are 100% organic, with no chemical pesticides, making them safe for people, pets, and wildlife like birds. My customers are always pleased with my work. Ongoing maintenance is required to keep a garden looking good, so I highly suggest hiring me to visit your garden once or twice a month to keep it looking great. Otherwise, weeds will move in, plants can die from a lack of watering, etc. To protect myself from people who might take my ideas and waste my time (which has happened too often), I charge $45 to visit your property for a one-hour consultation. If you hire me, I will credit your final bill with that $45.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
