The service was top notch work. Before searching for the quote, I had bad experience with other roofing contractor several years ago. Hence, I had a hard time, trusting the bids I was asking for. Until I found Frank Maxwell and Robin through this website, Frank came out next day to give the quote for new bigger deck and siding..... A real big project in my book. The quote was average...not the cheapest. AND IT IS WORTH! Frank, Robin, and Jeff did the marvelous work. They built real throughly and carefully. A beautiful siding..... Can't express how great deck looks. What's more, they made sure that my deck is well regulated by the city requirement. Robin always kept me up to the date with the work underway. If you are looking for the quotes, stop here... Don't go further. Give them a call. You won't regret!

Jason has been fantastic to work with. He came out to give us a bid and on the spot fixed a small issue we were having. This and the price regarding further renovations cemented our decision to use his services. So far he has uninstalled our previous contractor's sloppy work, helped us reimagine our kitchen, and has been following through in a timely and professional manner. He provides us with options at every step of the way, but based on his work, we trust him to do whatever he thinks is right because "the proof is in the pudding." We could not be happier that we found Jason to help us perfect our first home.

I highly recommend WH Electrical & Plumbing. I hired Wendell to replace my home's outlets, light switches, install light fixtures and repair some electrical issues. Wendell was punctual, honest, reasonable and competent in his work. I appreciated how he cleaned up after his work and was respectful of my home. I intend to use him for my future electrical and plumbing projects.

We hired Acc Pro for a full remodel of our house and I have to say that these guys are by far the very best contractors we have ever worked with and we have used dozens over the years for alot of our rentals but non of them could ever ad up to Acc pro. We had a new roof installed 9 windows a bathroom and full gut of our kitchen and everything turned out super this company is such a great company and they came in under budget and the other contractors we had out to our house could not even stand up to this company. Thank you Acc pro

Charles is by far the most excellent contractor we have ever used. Bar none. He designed and implemented the construction of our new kitchen. He either DID every single aspect by himself, or oversaw anyone who came into the house. Floors to ceilings! Anytime we discussed something and my husband or I would say, "is it possible to maybe do???" He found a way! When we decided it was time for a new kitchen, we never expected to get pretty much everything we wanted, and more. But we did. Not only is Charles's workmanship extraordinary, but he himself is THE most respectful and considerate of any workers of any kind we have ever had in our home. And believe me, when no one in our household is DIY, and we've lived here 30+ years, we have had to deal with lots of workmen! Our original idea was to change old cabinets, countertops and appliances. But with the questions and suggestions of Charles we ended up with a major remodel. He understood our greatest desires in a kitchen. And so we were able to get our dream kitchen. We are so very pleased with the kitchen results, we really really want to remodel our game room with the help of Charles of Parham Design. Soon.

Refreshing to meet a contractor who understands and uses technology. I used Dwayne to consult on the proper configuration for my sink & disposal. It gave me problems for years. He evaluated it and proposed new piping. It seems much better although I'm only on day one. Price was reasonable. Labor and parts was below $150. Wish I had done with the first problem! Expert advice is hard to get. Dwayne was the first to see that the pipe direction was wrong. Thank you.

Jim and his guys are honest, hardworking, and very professional. I’m sure this comes from his many years in the Army. We had Jim remodel a powder room, power wash our concrete patio and sidewalks, and inspect our basement walls due to water entering into the basement. He provided us some insight and recommendations to fix the problem; he even reviewed the contractors estimate at no charge. Jim provides outstanding service. He is the first person we call when we need help with fixing something in our home!

After having several bad experiences with contractors after moving back to PA, it was refreshing to finally find an honest, reliable person to help me with my heating needs. Scott was prompt and spent the time needed to explain my options( he didn't rush me). Thorough and knowledgeable , and very reasonably priced. I definitely recommend him and would give him ten stars if I could. Thanks Scott!!!

They came over the same day I spoke to them and completed work on the same day even though they had to get an extra heavy duty snake due to the clog in my sewer being so bad. Very polite and courteous. Explained everything to me that needed done before and after the work was completed. Also cleaned up my floors in basement with bleach cleaner where sewer debris had made a mess. I would definitely use Bossong Plumbing again.

We have used Try-County Plumbing for many years (to replace a toilet, install a hot water heater, replace a hose bib, install kitchen and bathroom faucets, repair a water line, snake/camera/unclog sewer line, replace a large portion of exterior sewer line, repair a toilet, and install a new tankless water heater). Through all of these projects, Bob has always explained the issue and given suggestions/options for fixing it. We always appreciate that. He’s always been friendly and professional with us - never pushy and never made us feel pressured to purchase a particular service. Most importantly, we’ve always been happy with his work. That’s why we keep going back to him and why we’ve recommended him to our family and friends. We highly recommend Try-County Plumbing.

I have had the pleasure to work with John numerous times throughout this past year. As a Property Manager at a luxury student housing apartment complex, we were very particular as to who we wanted to use for a major renovation project we did this past year. John did an amazing job and exceeded our expectations. John does top quality work at a very cost effective price, he also is a very honest contractor which is hard to find. I highly recommend him for anything anyone may need, he has an extremely wide knowledge when it comes to construction services!

Chuck Miller installed an Attic Stair and put flooring in my Attic. They also installed electric in the attic for lighting and receptacles. They did an excellent job with my attic and had to work thru the extreme heat of the day to do the install. They worked thru the project until completed. I will use Chuck Miller again for other projects I have in my home.

Dave was excellent in explaining all the potential options, whether it was to repair or replace our hot water heater. He took the extra time to vet all solutions, while the others simply pushed replacement and price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
