I hired Matthew to paint the entire interior of my home, remove carpeted floors, install laminate floors, and build a fence in the backyard. We booked him about a month out and he was very accommodating when my closing date on the house got moved up and gave a very fair price. Matthew has a team of people that he splits up between jobs, so depending on where in the projects he was there would be between one and 8 people working. His team worked fast and when an issue came up with a leaking pipe his team stayed late to try to keep the job on schedule. After the job there were a few items that needed to be touched up and they were more than accommodating coming multiple times to get everything right. I would definitely recommend them.

Joyce Means helped us with the interior decorating of our home in Largo, FL. And she is going to help us with another one in Ruskin, FL. We are so excited to see what she will come up with the Ruskin house. She worked miracles in our Largo home. She can walk into a room and can tell you exactly how you should decorate your home that will fit your needs and style. And it will turn out absolutely beautiful! People have said that our house looked like a model home, very warm and inviting. That's what we wanted. She transformed our house in a very short time. There is no one else we would have to decorate our homes and I recommend her to everyone.

A true professional in every sense of the word. I hired him to do multiple projects over the years and he has delivered every time with exceptional results. He did a fantastic job on smoothing cottage cheese ceilings and he rehabbed my hardwood floors. I would definitely recommend him for any home remodeling project.

Jelena helped redecorate my son's bedroom and she exceeded my expectations in all areas. I had to stay within a certain budget and Jelena helped me do this while presenting several options and choices. She presented new and fresh ideas and always listened to my needs and wants. She arrived at my home with wallpaper and tile samples, websites for me to view and I knew she had put a lot of thought into my project. I really appreciated her promptness to return calls and emails and would highly recommend Jelena.

I recently had the pleasure of working oth Richard and his team and I am TRULY BEYOND PLEASED with the work they did. Previously had someone come in to paint and they did a complete botch job all over my home. They had globbed paint on the walls, doors, trim and even went into rooms they weren't supposed to. My hinges, blinds and newly installed floors even had paint on them. Richard came by quickly and gave me a full estimate and told me exactly what needed to be done to correct the problem. When they arrived to do the work they covered everything to ensure that nothing in my home was damaged. Since there was so much bad done they had to sand the walls, doors and trim to get it in good condition to paint. When Richard and his team saw something that needed more attention they did. They made sure everything was perfect. If you need a great team that cares about the quality of their work Carolinas Quality Coating is your choice. They painted all interior walls, doors, trim, ceiling (YES THOSE HAD TO BE FIXED ALSO), and exterior doors and shutters. I will definitely use them in the future. They are also super nice, respectful and take huge pride in their work! Thanks for everything!!!

Tiffany is amazing! I requested a frame to be made for a baby shower i was decorating and it came out beautifully. I told her what the theme would be as well ad the color scheme and she did an amazing job coordinating the frame with my colors. She was reasonably priced and my item was ready promptly. Everyone loved it! I am definitely using her again for an event this summer.

We are moving into a beach home that has been recently renovated. We had a long list of little items that needed attention. Charlie was great. He and his colleague worked their tails off and powered through our list. He reorganized his schedule to meet our needs and stayed till late in the evening to complete the work. Tim, Charlie's business partner came to help finish up that evening. Thank you guys! Much appreciated!

We truly enjoyed working with Ashley. Her sense of style and passion is why we chose her. She was a genius at pulling our room's together. After our initial telephone consultation she came over to confirm her thoughts and design. She knew perfectly how to combine my husbands taste with mine (not an easy task) lol but she was delightful! A true gem! Thank you so much Ashley for making our house "home". Photos coming.

What a breath of fresh air! Ideas that are unique to me but stayed "on trend". Always has someone awesome who can do the work...tile, upholstery, painting etc. She has a plan and helps you execute the plan. From a large scale job to small items. I never felt rushed or pushed and loved that she helped me stayed on track. Love that I feel comfortable texting a picture to get her input. And she is on-time! and confirms appointments!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
