Powder Room floor replaced. Jonathan and I met to pick out and purchase the tile and materials needed. He and his crew arrived when he promised and did a professional job. He even fixed a small issue with lighting outside my garage door at no additional charge. Jonathan is easy to work with and genuinely wants to make sure his customer is satisfied.

Brent was always on time, polite and cleaned up at the end of everyday. He communicated with me throughout the entire project. I was extremely impressed with how meticulous he was with everything he did in my house. From painting my whole house, putting in new flooring, to the backsplash and tile in my kitchen, laundry and bathrooms everything was perfect. I would recommend Brent to anyone and will contact him again for future projects.

Marshall did a fantastic job at a very, very fair price. I liked that other reviewers said he did such a good job and was so trustworthy. I would echo that and say if you needed a jack of all trades, he is it. He came and did our electrical work, helped with some audio/visual issues with 3 tv's, was able to troubleshoot and get us answers on everything. We are having him come back and do some painting touch up work, fix a door, fix some tile work in a bathroom and another painting project outside. I would highly recommend him. Very polite and amicable.

I needed someone to repair my two front windows that were broken. Chris showed up when he said he would. He was very respectful and professional, secured my windows with replacement glass while he plans to order & await arrival of new double pane windows to install. He was patient and took his time to be careful and not cause any further damage. I was very satisfied with the service he provided and would highly recommend him to others.

Jay was professional from the initial point of contact in responding to my inquiry. After my storm/screen door arrived and I contacted Jay, he responded in a timely fashion to schedule installation. He told me that on the day of he would contact me if he were to be early or delayed from a previous job he had scheduled. On the day of the installation, he called to let me know he would be done early and would arrive early for my installation. He arrived, got right to work and needed to move the doorbell to accommodate the door frame. When he had finished, he cleaned up and the door installation is superb and looks fantastic! I'd highly recommend this professional for this work!

I hired ALL SEASONS to replace a falling down deck with a screened porch. Chuck contacted me right away and gave me a quote and I proceeded. The outcome was far and above my expectations. All the crews that did the work were highly skilled and reliable. There was a lot of wood damage on the cedar siding that needed to be replaced and if was painted you would never know it had been damaged. The quote was about what I expected and although there were some extras that put me over the quote still very reasonable. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a high quality outcome

Bruce was a quick to respond and was able to help me same day. I usually DIY most of my projects but had an issue that included electrical and Sheetrock - neither are strong points of mine. My project was replacing and relocating a master bath exhaust fan-light combo. Bruce completed the task much faster. better than i could have and I'm confident in his expertise. Job looks great, cleaned up nicely and saved me a lot of grief. Price was right too - very reasonable. I have already tagged Bruce to do another project for me in a couple of weeks. First time hiring from a site like this and it worked out better than i expected.

I was looking for a quality roofer that could bring back to life a building on the property that was once used as an office and storage building for my fathers business before he died. The building had gone thru a period of some neglect and when a storm came thru and damaged the roof it got even worse. Expedited Roofing (Greg Hafford) won a competitive bid against several contractors. He was not the low bidder nor the highest bidder. However, I was impressed with his understanding of the problems with the building and his recommendations for repair to bring this building back to life. Greg installed a quality dimensional residential roofing shingle seem with warranty and a cold applied single ply system on the flat portion of the roof. Both were high quality installations from start to finish, taking only a few days for complete tear-off, rafter repair, new decking installation, debris removal & roofing installation. I highly recommend Greg Hafford for his professional installation and his quick reliable services.

I hired CLB to make a design using 2 different colored 3/4 inch hardwood, and select their design and could not be happier!! The finished product is the best I have ever received in all my years of buying and renovating homes, and solid enough to last my lifetime. Even my wife is very pleased, and she is very particular as to workmanship as she has personally renovated houses in the past in a number of cities. Pricing was very fair and lower than other bidders outside of Thumbtack. We also hired this company to enclose our backyard with a 100 running feet of a wooden privacy fence with a double gate on both sides of the house. Gates are strong enough to swing on and will definitively be long lasting through many years. Once again, we receive a superior installation with a number of features that other contractors would not even have not thought to offer. HIRE this contractor who has built many houses and is GREAT for renovation projects of many types.

My experiences with Tinothy's Painting Services was quick with everything regarding the installation. They installed laminate floors and the job was done in a timely manner. They have professional personnel and do not take advantage of you. They install the flooring a New Life in Christ Missionary Church in Fountain Inn SC on behalf of Branch Banking and Trust as a charity project. Thank you Timothy for the excellent service that you provided.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
