FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I constantly strive to learn more, and am very appreciative of all the online opportunities to self-study. Most manufacturers in the tile industry offer extensive information an their products, as well as technical help when needed. Also, the local tile vendors offer occational workshop and training opportunities.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had a friend who needed help in her office, so I stepped in to help and stayed. It was a tile installation company, so I learned a lot about the business before I went into the field. Customer service has always been a priority for me, and there was a lack of that in the actual field. A lot due to miscommunication, but also, due to the heavy schedules the installers had. I started by doing punch lists for new residential builders. Then, as I gained experience, also took on warranty work for the custom remodels. We had a large commercial job that required an extrodinary amount of work to repair epoxy grout that had some problems. This required additional research on my part, and that's when I really decided to learn as much as I could about what had become my new profession.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In newer homes, replace cracked and broken grout, utilizing grout caulk in some areas. Mostly on the kitchen back splash where it meets the counter, and the bathroom showers and garden tubs. For older homes, cracked and broken grout on the floors in addition to the above. If extra tile is available, I also can replace any broken tiles, too.
