A1 movers moved our 1200 sq ft single story to our new 2700 sq ft two story home about 15 minutes away. The move took 2 trips (15 min distance) with 2 movers over 7h 30min. Both were very professional, friendly, and were very fast. After placement of items they often jogged back to the truck. I feel they worked very hard and well and tipped them extra at the end.

I moved from one two-story townhouse to another two-story townhouse -- not too far of a distance. I was worried about the movers getting an upright piano up the stairs in the new house, but they had no problem. They were quick (done in 2 hours), courteous, and professional. No walls, doors, furniture, or floors were scratched during the entire move. Great guys, good price. They also provide other home services, so I had them clean the carpet. More good work on their part. Highly recommend.

Jordan and Griffin were great movers. They called ahead of time to see if they could come 20 minutes early. After moving several of the larger furniture items in our apartment (which took 20 minutes), they helped us carry out large boxes and other items that we had intended to carry out ourselves. They maximized our time, put everything in our truck the way we wanted, and took care of our belongings. Would definitely use them again, thank guys for a job well done!

For long distance moving it is important to get a trustworthy company with honest workers that would help you in that important moment of your life. My family and I moved and even though it was an emotional and hard moving process, the company made sure to make our moving smooth and professional. I have to say that the price was reasonably low; the service on the highest level and our satisfaction is still present. Move Us, Inc is really the best.

Moving Forward America did an amazing job calming my nerves through my move. I was extremely concerned with the long-distance move. I didn't know if I could trust somebody else to handle it for me, but I was overwhelmed. I'm so glad they took control and lifted the weight of my shoulders. The customer service people kept me updated with any changes or concerns. The movers did a wonderful job loading everything up- they even gave me a free blanket for my flatscreen! I highly recommend Chad and the Moving Forward America team!

Tired of paying moving companies outrageous amounts of money for their services? Looking for cheaper service? Rent a truck, and call me. I will take care of the rest for an affordable price. I have over two years of experience in moving furniture locally, and out of town. I can move it all: pianos, grandfather clocks, office or industrial equipment, etc. I guarantee you will be satisfied with the results that my crew and I will deliver. I have my own equipment, and I'm available anytime. I have my driver's license, DOT medical card, and copy of motor vehicle record (MVR). Everything is legit, and so is my work. Give me a call if you're serious about saving money and getting quality services. Experience is definitely not a problem. I have worked for two companies already: Fox Moving and Storage and All My Sons Moving and Storage. The rates are $45 for two guys and $65 for three guys. I'll pay for the gas. Price is slightly different and usually a flat rate for long-distance moving.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
