FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had been in the graphics and commercial photography industry and decided to supplement my income with video at first. My first paid wedding was a video job that my wife and I worked together on. I decided to take a few photos. As a side chapter in her wedding video I included my photos in a slide show with the brides favorite music. I later met with the bride and when she saw the photos she cried tears of joy. Her photographer did a bad job and my photos were not only unexpected, but much better. It was really her compliments that motivated me to do wedding photography. I saw the importance and the reward knowing I was part of something very special. I was documenting the most important day in one's life. Nothing I had done in my profession could compare. I rapidly began doing wedding photography full time.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I always talk about my weddings being stress free, but I recently did a difficult wedding that required three video cameras and two still cameras. It was at three different locations. Packing up and beating the wedding party to each location was a real rush. There were twenty five people in the wedding party and it was a large wedding. Top it all off with a videographer calling in sick and having to go for my back-up guy. I pulled it off flawlessly. The greatest part was when I delivered the finished product to the bride and groom. She cried tears of joy and the groom gave me the biggest hug. I'll be riding this complement for a long time to come. She is one of my many references. No additional charges for the size of your wedding or the amount of locations.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always ask the photographer to see their most recent weddings and don't be captivated by faux wedding pictures. Also, look more at the actual event photography and not just the sessions and posed photos. Look at the real body of work from pre-ceremony through the reception. Make sure there are no hidden charges. If you are expecting a very large family photo, look at those photos that pertain to your needs.
