Stewart was a great communicator from the initial contact until the drop off after the pup's spa day. I really appreciate the pick up and drop off service. :) The girls returned home relaxed and refreshed, primped and preened, and smelling fantastic.

I've been using Danielle's dog walking service since I moved here last July. Knowing Danielle (or her Mom) are visiting with my dog, Kloe, while I'm at work gives me great peace of mind. When I get into a pinch and can't get home from work right away, Danielle is just a "text" message away, and she's always been able to go back to the house to bring Kloe out for another break. Danielle is a natural animal lover - it's clearly her passion, which makes her the kind of person that I want watching my little Kloe. I would highly recommend Danielle and Music City Pet Sitting.

Amanda is absolutely amazing! She has a gentle spirit & brings such a calm to her service. Our dog watches for her arrival every day & can't wait to spend time with her. She is very tuned in to his energy level & walks him accordingly. So blessed to have found her.

Charlene (Hotsy) did an amazing job caring for our two large dogs and cat! She also did a great job house sitting and helping with small tasks (watering plants, bringing in the mail, taking out the trash). She sent pics of my fur babies and I know they loved being at home during our 11 day vacation rather than a kennel. I would highly recommend Hotsy!

We have taken our 2 cats to Pet-i-cut Junction for grooming twice. We were so impressed with the gentle care they received and also with the state-of-the-art grooming equipment. Wrigley and Lily came home with their coats looking and feeling wonderful. Their prices are also very good. Highly recommend!

Bryana has helped me care for my dog and many cats for over 15 years. She is caring, compassionate and very skilled when handling my animals. I've never met an animal who does't love her and I think she's something of a furbaby whisperer, no matter what it is -- dog, cat or turtle. She's highly dependable and timely, responsible and totally trustworthy. As my pets have aged, she has helped me to medicate them and reassure them when they are ill, and at the end, she's been there for me to help me help them pass on to the Rainbow Bridge. I couldn't find a better more loving person to entrust my best friends to.

Tatiana is wonderful! She truly has a passion for animals and has taken care of and loved on our fur babies many times. She's great with our two giant dogs (70 and 60 lbs) and our cat. My husband and I love that she has so much experience at the vet and we can always count on her professional knowledge of what's going on if we are noticing any certain symptoms our animals are experiencing. I would highly recommend her. She's responsible, understands animal behavior, and most importantly our animals love her!

Libby is the only person we hire to pet sit and house sit for us while we are away. She is very responsible and trustworthy. She is the perfect house guest, keeping things neat and tidy. She has a way with animals. Our dog took to her right away. We can tell our animals have been well cared for when we return whether we were away for a weekend or an entire week. Again, we wouldn't hire anyone else.

Nikki's understanding of animal behavior is unimaginable, and her ability to teach people how to have a more enjoyable relationship with their dog is far beyond comprehension. My wife and I had Nikki come out to our home and teach us how to work with our German Shepherd puppy, Veda. Nikki's lessons are straight to the point, and the results are evident immediately. She is a huge proponent of not "over commanding" your dog. To hear it from Nikki, she'd tell you that you shouldn't have to constantly tell your dog what to do (or what NOT to do)...your dog should know what is expected and just do it without a command. To alot of people that sounds daunting, if not laughable, as a training method. You can laugh or shrug off that line of thinking if you want, but we're here to tell you that it works! Dog dragging you down the street on your "walk"? Nikki will fix it! Dog jumping at the door to greet visitors? Nikki will fix it! Ever feel like you're not the one in charge? Nikki will fix it! Quit reading the Leerburg site wondering about prong collars. Quit wasting your hard earned money at Petsmart and Petco on their clicker classes where you make the funny noises to distract the dog from what it's focusing on. Call Nikki. Tell her what's going on with your pet. Setup an appointment, and start enjoying your relationship with your pet (and other humans in the house) again. Her abilities with animals and their owners will change the dynamic in your house in a very short period of time. It does cost a little bit more than those other training classes...but the results are far better in our opinion.

Mommy and Me have been pet sitting for me for almost two years. They are great. I have a lot of animals and that can be challenging sometimes but they handle it fine. I have 4 horses, two dogs and two outdoor farm cats. They love animals and I couldn't go anywhere without their help.

        About

I have been asked to take care of peoples' pets on several occasions, both by staying at the home or visiting, walking and playing with them as requested. They have found my care and attention to their "babies" to be above and beyond. I treat everyone's pet as if it were my own. I can provide excellent references. No one will take better care of your pets!

        About

I am an animal sitter who loves and takes care of pretty much any pet. I come to you and make sure your pets have everything they need while you are away -- food, water, bath, walks, grooming and anything else they may need. I clean cages, pens, tanks, coupes and stalls. I can't think of any animal I won't help. If I can do it, it's done.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

        • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
        • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
        • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
        • What are your different walk routes?
        • When will you pick up and drop off?
        • How will we communicate?
        • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
        • What’s your cancellation policy?
        • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
        • How and how often do I pay you?
        • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

        What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

        What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

        • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
        • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
        • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
        • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
        • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
        • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
