Introduction: Hello, I'm John! I have tutored Math, English, test-prep and chess in several cities, most recently in the Bay Area for the past 5 years. I have tutored ages ranging from pre-school through first year college in the subjects of Math, English and Test-Prep. I have worked with remedial, autistic, ADHD, ADD, advanced and exceptional students. We have met at schools, libraries, home, and currently mostly online. Group size has ranged from 1-6 in tutoring, and 1-12 teaching.
I meet you where you are and challenge you to reach your full potential. I use various textbooks and methods (CP/M, AoPS, Flexbooks, IXL, YouTube, Khan Academy), online resources, apps and games to make math and test-prep interesting and fun as well as relating it to practical life. I ask you to focus, work hard, and be honest; and I promise the same in return. My goal is to help youlearn the basics and then move confidently into more advanced skills. I also enjoy making long-lasting friendships!
Most of my tutoring has been with 3-8th grade students, and my teaching with 5-8th grade students, but I work well with high-school and college as well. I have consistently helped bring success in classes, achieve higher scores in tests like the SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, SAT, PSAT and others. Many students go from 50-60 percentile to 70-90 and even 97-99 scores.
