Laura is an outstanding pianist - not simply a piano player - who has a gift for teaching the instrument. She is very knowledgeable about music history, music theory, the rudiments of playing piano - the entire package. She has a great deal of patience and a way of making the student feel as though they are capable of doing anything. As an adult student, I was often anxious about playing and she was always full of tips for calming down and how to play with feeling by not being so uptight. She is familiar with various teaching methods and I was always given just the right amount of practice work to do at home. There aren't enough words to describe Laura's exceptional abilities as a pianist and as an instructor. Highly recommended for any age!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The best rate is for folks who can commit to weekly lessons during a semester or summer term ($30 per half-hour lesson, $45 for 45min., $60 per hour -- all lessons paid at the beginning of the term or in two installments). I also offer a slight discount for packages of four lessons ($130 for four half-hour lessons, $190 for four 45min. lessons, $250 for four 60min. lessons). One-time lessons are $35 for a half-hour, $50 for 45-min., or $65 for an hour.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Find a teacher you enjoy being with -- while learning any new skill has its challenges, you want to leave most lessons feeling uplifted, encouraged, and enjoying the gift of music.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The most important ingredient for learning piano (or any instrument) is practice -- even if it's only a few minutes a day, touching your instrument regularly will keep you improving even more effectively than our lesson time together.
