Alex was very professional and loved her work! I did a trial with her and felt like my makeup was too heavy since I never wear makeup. Alex was willing to work with me and made sure that I agreed with the look before she moved on to the next part. She did makeup for my bridal party and mother in law and hair and makeup for me and one of my bridesmaids (the blonde). She was very flexible. My MIL decided last minute that she wanted to do her own hair and Alex graciously opted to do the hair of one of my bridesmaids instead. Everyone loved how their look turned out! Thank you!

Words cannot express how grateful I was to have had Resena as my makeup artist on my wedding day. She actually made me look at least 10 years younger, and the detail of my makeup was absolutely flawless. I a was simply amazed, because I looked like a completely different person. I wish I had enough money to hire her on a full time basis.

Hannah makes you feel so special when doing your makeup. She compliments you and really listens to your requests and gives very helpful advice. She makes the, sometimes long, process of getting your makeup done go by so quickly with her personable personality. It feels more like you're hanging out with a friend, then a makeup artist, while she makes you look beautiful. Would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of makeup services.

Absolutely adore Lecia! Her responsiveness, her talent, and her flexibility were amazing! The day of my trial I had asked Lecia to try something different on me as I thought I wanted to look completely different from my normal days. Not only did she accommodate, but when I realized in the end that I may have asked for a bit too drastic, she worked with me to find a great balance in what I was comfortable with but felt amazing in. She is such a delight to be around and makes the whole time you are with her so calming and fun! I would absolutely recommend Lecia and her team to anyone looking for hair and makeup for any event!

Crystal is not only an amazing MUA, but an amazing human being! She is so humble and sweet. Her makeup skills are just inane. She did my best friend and my makeup for a bachelorette party, and did outstanding! She also does makeup classes that I did attend. I did an one on one makeup class with her, and she shows you step by step how to do your makeup and what the best brands to use without breaking the bank. I would highly recommend this amazing woman to do anyones makeup. Keep being a rockstar girl!

I had my hair & makeup done for my wedding. My hair was perfect. My makeup was not exactly what I was expecting but it looked good and fit my theme. Mary Elise was fantastic and went above and beyond to make sure I looked amazing and loved how I looked. The only thing I would change would be to have a makeup run though like we did the hair. My foundation ended up being a little light and my eyeshadow a little dark, due to lighting in our preparation facility, but I loved it. I will be using Pretty ME again in the future.

The first time I used Elaina Dilts Makeup was for a modeling job. She was so professional and memorable that when it came time to choose a makeup artist for my wedding, it was a no-brainer. Before the wedding, I asked Elaina to do my makeup for engagement photos. It was a chance for me to check out her bridal makeup skills before committing to a trial run. I immediately set up my trial run and booked her for my wedding. Elaina listened to all of my needs and was well prepared for the trial run. At the run through, she asked questions to ensure everything was up to my standards and suggested things when I was unsure exactly what I wanted. I felt so comfortable with her unique skill set and level of expertise. The morning of the wedding was a bit stressful as most weddings are. The one thing that I did not have to worry about at all was my makeup. Elaina did a fantastic job! She was on time, efficient, caring, and adept. I looked beautiful and it lasted all day and night. I highly recommend Elaina!

We hired Kristina to do the makeup for a short indie film. She was always on time, listened carefully to what we wanted, and had the skills to create many different looks for our actors. I've also experienced and seen her make-overs directly. She is unlike other makeup artists in style and technique in creating a look that draws attention to the eyes. Exceptional work.

Hannah did my hair and make up for a video shoot for a conference I traveled to Nashville for. With very little feedback she knew exactly what I wanted and the results exceeded expectations. I was able to keep the same look for a dinner 8 hours later and got to hear “stunning” / “love your hair” /“wow”. Hannah’s calming demeanor also minimized my stress about doing the video. I also picked up some great make up tips. Hannah is getting booked in advance the next time I’m in Nashville!!

Kimberly recently did my make-up, hair, nails and toes for my wedding on the beach in Cape Coral. I can’t even put into words for the work she did, astonishing is not even close. She is an amazing person who is very passionate and puts 110% into what she does. Kimberly even went to the beach and stayed during the entire ceremony to make sure my hair and make-up remained perfect for the pictures. Don’t let her price intimidate you; I had a bunch of lower quotes on thumbtack however she is definitely worth it. I would without a doubt recommend her you will not be disappointed. Alice Slattery

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

      • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
      • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
      • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
      • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
      • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

      • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
      • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
      • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
      • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
      • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
      • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
      • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
