- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up on a dairy farm in Upstate New York, so have loved and worked with animals my entire life. I've always had a special bond with dogs. Friends' pets who would usually be afraid of strangers have always been all over me. I've always had people comment how amazed they are at my "way" with animals. I've pet sat for friends and family for years. In 2010, after being downsized from my corporate job resulting from the recession, I finally had the chance to start this business that I've always dreamed of doing. I always say that my life went to the dogs and I've never been happier! :)
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I love ALL of my clients! I love that my clients love and care for their furry and feathered family members enough to ensure that they are well cared for when they travel and/or while they are at work. I also do a lot of volunteer work in animal rescue, so it is especially rewarding to see the absolute best in pet ownership to help offset the worst in pet ownership that I see in my rescue mission.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
ALWAYS ask for references! Not only are you entrusting us with your beloved family members, but you are also literally giving us the keys to your castle. And only hire sitters who are insured and bonded. Ask if they have emergency backup/contingency plans in place in case something happens to them and they are unable to do their visits.
