Robbie has made dancing, and teaching it, her life's focus. With her you'll get a true professional who loves the music, the movement, the community, and the students. My experience with her has mostly been with salsa (reworking my basic, improving leading & connection with partner, musicality, Afro-Cuban, making on-2 more solid, spins - really everything salsa). Also with kizomba and recently bachata, where she really emphasizes "real" Dominican style. For all of these, Robbie will bring you completely up-to-date guidance: she attends boot camps, she travels across the US, Caribbean, and Europe to dance where each style is most alive, attending congresses, taking lessons from the best, and having fun with others who live and live the dance just like her. She has invested deeply. Personality-wise, I've seen her adapt group lessons seamlessly to all kinds of people - their levels and personalities. She's warm, fun, and friendly but organized and structured, with a goal: professional. In a private lesson, she is so observant that she catches the half-second things I do that mess me up. She's so solid in leading and following that she can also show me how to fix it. Mostly she loves dancing and wants you to experience that too!!Jul 10, 2017
Robbie is a beautifully skilled, talented, knowledgeable, and gifted dance teacher. Not only is she an exquisite dancer with an intimate knowledge of a wide variety of dance forms, she knows how to break steps and movements down into easily learnable components to make them accessible to both novice and experienced dancers. Her teaching style is warm, patient, and supportive, and coupled with her easy laugh makes her a joy to learn from. She has an in depth understanding of technique, style, musicality, history, and cultural context of the dances she teaches which she is able to convey and integrate into her teaching in ways that accelerate and facilitate her students' success. Both her group classes and private lessons are well thought out, planned, and prepared to be tailored to her students' skill levels, goals, and needs while they maximize mastery of steps and skills that can be immediately integrated into their dance repertoires. She is intuitive, insightful, and responsive in the moment in ways that allow her to spontaneously pivot to ensure that her classes meet her students where they are and have maximum benefit, value, and results. I love working with Robbie and am so grateful to be on this dance journey with her!Jul 1, 2017
Wedding Dance Lessons
My husband and I hired Robbie to help us with our wedding first dance. We had time constraints but Robbie was able to get started with us right away and was flexible with our schedules! She is an excellent teacher and skillfully adapts her teaching methods to resonate with her students, especially since neither of us had much experience with partner dancing. We gained SO much more in one lesson with her than 4 weeks of group lessons elsewhere. We booked four classes in total and had a ton of compliments on our first dance, but most importantly we felt good and comfortable on the dance floor! I recommend Robbie to anyone looking to learn or clean up a dance and to couples who need help with a first dance. Hire her! She’s wonderful!Oct 28, 2019Verified
I've been taking lessons from Robbie for years. She loves dance and it shows in her classes and lessons. She can teach the most advanced dancer, but also has the patience and can break down a move for the beginner dancers. When my husband and I got engaged, I knew she would be the perfect instructor for our first wedding dance. She gave us a great dance, and my husband wants to do more lessons with her to now learn Salsa.Aug 15, 2017
I've been taking lessons from Robbie for over 5 years now and do not foresee stopping any time soon. She is absolutely the best dance teacher in Austin and is best known for her latin dancing. What folks may not know is she knows and can teach over 30 different dances including country, swing, and ballroom too. If you want to be a great social dancer and able to do everything, she is your best bet. And ladies, if you want to learn styling, especially in salsa and bachata, she is your mentor. One thing more, her lessons are always fun too. It is the best combination of learning the correct way to dance and enjoy even the technical aspects of your steps and moves.Jul 1, 2017
